The Revolution Of Game Boy Color
The original Nintendo Game Boy console was very success and become popular because of its battery lifetime, light weight, cheap price and exciting games. The weakness of this console is lies on the color screen. It had only black and white screen, while its competitors like Sega Game Gear or Atari Lynx, had full color screen. This reason makes Nintendo Company to keep on research into this technology to come up with a color full portable console. They cover its weakness and still maintain the benefits of the original game boy such as long battery life, light weight and cheap price.
On 21st October 1998 in Japan, Nintendo released Game Boy Color which is known as GBC now as the successor to the original Game Boy. Game Boy Color is slightly thicker and taller than Game Boy Pocket, smaller than original Game Boy and also features a color screen. This console is portable, full color and also backwards compatible with original Game Boy games with 8-bit processor. This console’s logo for the “COLOR” words contains 5 colors which the unit was manufactured. It was pink (strawberry), purple (grape), green (kiwi), yellow (dandelion), and blue (teal).
Game Boy Color was the first handheld to be backwards compatible, means that you could play a vast number of the original Game Boy classic games. It has the largest library than any other handheld. When you’re using the Game Boy classic cartridge, you could choose the default colors or pick ones you want manually. The library added the limited color to the Game Boy classic games.
A good handheld game console should be able to communicate with other console whether it’s for multiplayer games, or exchanging items in the game. Game Boy Color used an infrared communications port to allow information to be exchanged between two systems. It’s almost same with the precursor to the wireless link that is built on the Nintendo DS. I think the most advantage of this feature is using on Pokemon games. Cause this game need exchange pokemon for collecting the completed pokedex and pokemon list. Game Boy Color also got a motion sensor that can sense how you move the console. Whether its how short and fast you shift it, it’ll allowing you to use the system as a controller.
The Game Boy Color did very well on the market since it had basically no competition. It was followed a few years later by the Game Boy Advance. So just owning a Nintendo Game Boy, you’re no longer stuck in black and white games world, no longer beholden to the restrictive area of the TV set and also no longer limited to places where there is electricity. You can enjoy playing your favorite games while on campus, bus, station, while stuck in traffic, while waiting for a sumptuous meal in restaurant.
