Eagles Ink FB Wright To Two-Year Deal

January 29, 2010 | Last Updated: 1/29/10 4:12 PM ET | Comments (7)

The Eagles announced on Friday afternoon that they have signed fullback Dwayne Wright to a two-year contract.

Originally a fourth round draft choice of Buffalo in 2007, the 5-11, 228-pound Wright appeared in 15 games for the Bills in his rookie campaign. A fullback with the ability to run the ball, Wright recorded 94 rushing yards on 29 attempts. He was released by the team prior to the start of the 2008 season. Wright spent the 2009 preseason with the New York Giants but did not make the team.

A four-year letterman at Fresno State, Wright finished his collegiate career ranked third on the school's all-time list in rushing attempts (501) and yards (2,683), adding 16 touchdowns. He was an All-Western Conference second team selection as a senior after rushing for 1,462 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The 26-year-old Wright is a native of San Diego, CA and attended Lincoln High School, where he earned all-state honors as a senior.

Are you guys serious. This doesn't have anything to do with Weaver. He replaces Marcus Malei, who we never replaced on the Practice Squad when someone signed him midyear. The 2yrs is for minimal money, I'm sure, and if he doesn't make the team or PS, who cares about a few hundred thousand dead cap money in 2011. Weaver, Avant and Nick Cole are the three restricted free agents that we certainly shouldn't let get away.

I cant make much sense of this right now except Andy loves creating competition. Not sure why the 2 yr deal though instead of 1? Hopefully you guys in the FO know what you are doing. Usually they do so I have faith.
