  • Official announcement of ICANN on extending YU domain until 30 March 2010
Belgrade 29 October 2009 – The Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS) has received an official letter regarding the decision of the ICANN Board of Directors to postpone deactivation of the YU domain until 30 March 2010.

Apart from quoting decisions of the ICANN Board of Directors, it is mentioned in the letter that the procedure of deactivating the YU domain will be initiated on 1 March 2010. At that time a request for removing the YU domain from zone tables in the DNS root servers will be sent to the US Government for authorisation and then to VeriSign for implementation.

At this moment it is not possible to specify the exact date when the YU domain will no longer be visible on the Internet because of a large number of participants in this procedure, some of whom are impossible to be influenced. ICANN intends to effect the removal of the YU domain from the Internet as close as possible to 30 March 2010.

Bearing this fact in mind, the Managing Board of RNIDS will ratify a plan of activities and inform the general public about it in a timely manner.

    The letter is available here.
