BBC Three's Being Human moves from Bristol to Wales

Being Human's move to Wales was heralded in the climax of the second series

The new series of the BBC Three drama Being Human is to be relocated in Wales, it has been announced.

The drama, which chronicles the lives of a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost follows Casualty, which is moving from Bristol to Cardiff.

Piers Wenger, head of drama at BBC Cymru Wales said it is "thrilled" that an editorial opportunity has arisen for the show to come to Wales.

The relocation to Wales will be explained in the show by events to come at the end of the second series, which launched with an audience of 1.4m.

The critically-acclaimed drama stars Russell Tovey, Lenora Crichlow and Aidan Turner as the three supernatural friends trying to live normal lives despite their unusual afflictions.

Danny Cohen, controller of BBC Three said: "Being Human is a wonderfully imaginative series from a brilliant team both in front of and behind the camera."

Being Human is made by Touchpaper Television, part of the RDF Media Group.

Rob Pursey, its executive producer, said, they were "very excited" to be able to make the new series of Being Human in fresh territory.

"With the new location in mind, we've already established some startling new storylines and characters.

"We'll also aim to deliver plenty more exclusive online content in the gaps between series."

Mr Wenger said BBC Cymru Wales was proud to have worked with the team at Touchpaper on the last two Being Human series.

"We look forward to continuing working with that team and Being Human's superb cast on its third series and for many more to come."

Work on the new BBC Wales drama centre in Cardiff Bay could start in six months.

Filming on Casualty is expected to start in Wales next year.

The programme will join a growing stable of network drama produced in Wales, including Doctor Who, Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures and the BBC's longest-running television soap, Pobol y Cwm.
