  • Recommend an Asus MB for E8400

I am building a new PC to catch up on the newer technology. I'm not a 'big' gamer and have decided on components, except for the MoBo... As I've had no probs with Asus in the past, would like to stay with them. No WiFi... Planning on using Memory: 4 GB (2x2GB) 800 CPU: E8400 GPU: eVGA GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB HDD - 1. Main: W/ Vista - Western Digital VelociRaptor Hard Drive (WD3000GLFS): 10,000 RPM 300GB 2. 2nd HDD: 4 data, storage, backup - Western Digital WD6400AAKS 640GB Caviar SE16 Optical

Hello All! I have recently been introduced to your forums and have decided to attempt a build of my own. I am looking for a gaming pc that will play most recent games at moderate levels, and some older ones perfectly with everything set to high. My old pc was a dell dimension bleh, with nothing really salvageable to use on this, so I am starting from scratch. Here is what I am thinking for basics AMD 780g on a Gigabyte setup http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128090 AMD Athlon

Nice piece, Lloyd, and much appreciated. It may not be "extreme" tech but it surely is "useful" tech! I like your choices and learned about a few things I will investigate further. I have to admit I do not use a power driver of any sort, probably because I just do not build as many systems as you fellows do, but I am skittish about the damage tht can be done with those things. And let me second tlmck's endorsement of Gparted. Once I discovered it I have been surprised at how useful it is. IMHO, anybody

You could same some money getting a drive w/out it. Good choice on the CPU Cooler btw. I think you're friend will

Asus boards have the ability to automatically overclock the cpu and/or ram up to 20% (i forget the actual name of the bios option atm) so that could help you in the beginning of OCing. What about Seagate for your hard drive? Their Barracuda line of hard drives are great price/performance drives! I have heard good things w/ the Samsung's Spinpoint Drives. WD is okay but i would definitely check out Seagate or Hitachi first. That's just my opinion though. Also you should look for 16mb cache when looking

  • New Build Help..Please

I just built my first PC! All went well until I was loading Vista and I got to the second or third screen where it was asking what drive to load onto. I have 2 HDD's setup. I chose the one I wanted and it said it wasnot able to??? So I then used Vista to supposedly format but when I formatt all it did was was change the my selected drive to primary and still would not let me load Vista. So exited out of the install. I checked my Boot primary's and HDD's in Bios and all look good. So went to setup

  • Re: First build help

im glad i could help. corsair ram is a good choice, it is rock solid and most likely compatible with your Gigabyte mobo (corsair is usually always compatible with most mobos as far as i know) moving to a 64bit OS is a very viable and future looking path! (ig im just stubborn although at some point im sure i will make the jump) As far as i know, most of the compatibiity issues are software related? so that could hold you back from stepping up to a 64bit OS (who wants to re-buy their software? As for
