Toyota FT-86G Concept GT5 Trailer

January 14th, 2010 by Jordan

Here’s a new clip of the Toyota FT-86G SPORTS Concept car in Gran Turismo 5. Considering the Tokyo Auto Salon -- where GT is expected to make a big showing -- is just hours away, assume this car will probably be playable in the latest demo. The video shows no new tracks, but we do get to see the car in the mysterious wind tunnel that’s been spotted in several GT5 clips now…

Wind tunnel is interesting. Aerodynamic tuning maybe?

  2. LordVonPS3 Says:

    Anyone paying a visit?

  3. gamerGT5 Says:

Wow excellent teaser! The graphics looks awesome!

  4. Pilot Ace Says:

Nice, can’t wait for more news.

  5. DaveTheStalker Says:

Wind tunnel would help with tuning :)

  6. Ben Says:

    Hmm cool….

Looks like there was a decent amount of smoke coming out the back of the car…would be good if they made more smoke come out the back when you’re going sideways :)

  7. RAugie Says:

the car looks really nice and it seems the in-game sounds have been improved from prologue

  8. IronM@sk Says:

LOL @ Thegt4masta trying to read far too much into a trailer than necessary.

  9. cschoei Says:

sweet vid! At least pd knows what real tire squeal sounds like, even if they don’t put it in the game :)

  10. John Says:

some of those smoke effects look 100x better then what we’ve seen before, but i’m guessing its not ‘ingame’

  11. CCJ Says:

    denser tyre smoke FTW!

  12. TOLL-Scibba-HRT Says:

look like gt5 prologue to man

  13. AMG Says:

Nice grapix, 1 thing bother me in the fujj track is clouds, is low textures ,but everything els is nice

  14. Paul Says:

@AMG: because clouds totally ruin the in-game experience. Sorry if I sound standoff-ish but who cares about clouds and trees when its a RACING game, not a flight sim or a nature-viewer sim. Buy Afrika if you want photorealistic trees and clouds.

  15. AMG Says:

KY said that you can tune every imaginable part of the car, also Aerodynamic tuning in the wind tunnel , engines ,turbos , elektronic chips, suspension , brakes, rims , spoilers , car weight , carwash , olie cange ….

  16. p37mac Says:

Maybe the wind tunnel is the new view method in the garage? Cool engine noise. PD seem to be showing off their improved sound in these last few clips and demos, for good reason!

  17. AMG Says:

I see that fujj track has a grass update better textures and white flowers

  18. JimInPT Says:

AMG, do you plan to be going slow enough to watch the clouds? If so, leave me some passing room, ok?

  19. Zenith Says:

    Finally some good smoke!

    Way to go PD.

  20. Matt Says:

    Unbelievable, amazing, enticing, crazy….

They have obviously poured themselves into this game. This is going to be unbelievably fun to play with a G27 come this summer. BRING IT ON!

  21. AMG Says:

I have just read that GT5 will have 500.000 poly per car gt5p had 200.000

    http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-12218-Video-Game-Examiner~y2010m1d14-GT5-500k-polygons-in-a-car

  22. AMG Says:

GT5 will have 500.000 poly per car ,gt5p had 200.000

  23. Spriggers Says:

please let that smoke be in game smoke. That looked awesome!

  24. Djcorrosive Says:

If only the tire sounds and smoke was actually like that in the real game! Shame it won’t be the case, these videos are glorified and polished so much which is just for viewing,

  25. magicalgin Says:

    Damn that car looks mean

  26. AMG Says:

No this ingame replay also gameplay graphix

  27. AMG Says:

GT5 will have beter detail cockpitvieuw then GT5P

    GT5 500.000 poly GT5P 200.000 poly

  28. [UK] ANDYW Says:

Best teaser trailer yet for me.. smoke is perfect, visuals are impeccable.. can’t wait for some TAS info to trickle onto the internets!

  29. vampire63 Says:

Great drift but no skidmarks ( there i said it :P ) This car is in some way prety ?

  30. Mr. X Says:

    They’re giving us hints.
Aerodynamic tuning will be possible in GT5.

    You heard it here first.

  31. riph Says:

I LOLed the skidmarks bla2 request..is PD so stupid to not use it?

  32. DaveTheStalker Says:

Skidmarks apparently do matter. That’s why other games have them. Plus the build up causes changes in grip. Surely, Kaz can’t be oblivious to that aspect of racing!

  33. gtkiller Says:

That was amazing! Smoke density was nice, not to mention the car models are looking great. I think the tuning part the game is going to awesome!

  34. S3 Racer Says:

    I love the car.
great replay. Why here in the clip drifting seems ok, in the tt was harder than it looks here?

  35. Djcorrosive Says:

Time trial demo was not made for drifting! End of story.

If that smoke is in the game I’ll put a sock in it, but honestly I don’t think the smoke will even look like that! And tires won’t even sound like that. Sucks but it’s the reality of it all. I just don’t see it this time around, maybe in GT6 or GT7

  36. AMG Says:

gt5 trail was harder to drift because its on profisional pyshics

    GT5 pyshics

    Standard
    Profisional
    Simulation

  37. Djcorrosive Says:

Lol AMG u don’t know what u r talking about mate, u can’t drift cause u have R1 tires on the tuned car, and TC is on 7, u can’t drink in the 370z standard car with N1 tires because it doesn’t have enough power to hold a drift

  38. Djcorrosive Says:

Also AMG, u can change it to standard, professional, simulation in the Time Trial demo

  39. AMG Says:

No u cant Gt5 time trail only profisional mode

  40. Djcorrosive Says:

Lol, I think u need to go back, and look at the settings for the wheel

  41. AMG Says:

o yeah my bad i see it

  42. Djcorrosive Says:

Anyways professional, and simulation are the only ones u can drift on anyway, amature is shit for it. Like I said u need to look at things before u post VERY false information.

  43. AMG Says:

sorry i mean at the car settings, realisme is on professional mode, i cant choose other mode

  44. Djcorrosive Says:

Don’t understand what ur saying anyway.

But you cannot drift in the time trial demo! End of story.. It’s not possible

  45. Tomaz Says:

I’VE JUST JIZZED IN MY PANTS!!!

    BIG TIME!

That is just awesome news. To shame with can’t see Porsche in all it’s glory. Fucking EA and Porsche, signing stupid millenium contract.

  46. WALSALL FC Says:

500,000 polygons is just mindblowing, and takes 6 months to create each car

  47. Razor Says:

When we said that better smoke from tyres and good skidmarks would be really cool – you all said “its not needed”.But now all of you like this bette smoke.Thats the point, we need better effects (real effects, not stupidly overdone like in NFS:Shit) and it makes experience much better. The same story with skidmarks.

I want to do those 3rd gear power-to-the-ground tyre spins on my 800Hp Supra, and show that rubber to my online-friend driving behind me at the same time. This is nice and fun and we need it.

  48. Sentry23 Says:

Hmm.. @29 seconds in the clip, is that a dust/wind vortex on the grass on the left ?

    Anyway, it looks great..

  49. FES Says:

it can`t be 6 months for each car, otherwise that`d take 500 years, considering the fact that thy`re gonna put 1000 cars in GT5))))))

  50. blademask Says:

    release date.

  51. mc959 Says:

^ i was thinking the same, this car has just been presented to public and
    it’s already in a GT-clip…

Ok i know they just need to rework the Toyota concept but still…

  52. aleksandar SRB Says:

    Sound is awesome!!!!!

  53. iCyCo Says:

Why are people mentioning Fuji when this is clearly High Speed Ring

  54. iCyCo Says:

upon further review..it looks like all two were used in the vid

  55. P3nT4gR4m Says:

The 6months is probably a measure of man-hours. If they put 6 guys on it it’ll take 1 month.

  56. HDZD Says:

Sounds good, where’s the skid marks

  57. SomeStrangeSin Says:

    Digging the car.

  58. blubb Says:

WOW a new replay. I´m so excited! – NOT

Want the game and not more and more senseless videos, pics or interviews of KY with no information except the things that we will not get.

  59. OneOfaKinDTrini Says:

    Improvement in the smoke.

  60. NBH Says:

Isn’t this another trailer using the GT5 engine rather than a GT5 replay? If so then the last one of the Toyota had better sounds and tyre smoke so I’m not getting any hopes up for the game actually looking like this.

I would love for GT5 to have a sort of GT-HIFI like in GT1 so when you are time trialing with just 1 track and 1 car it looks like this and the Ferrari clip from last year.

  61. Fritter Says:

Everyone’s overlooking one detail, there is a dynamometer in the wind tunnel too :D

  62. Raitziger Says:

Please Toyota make this car!! I will buy it if costs under 40k€ in finland.

  63. Mustangmiha Says:

    Latest demo? WHEN?!?!?!

  64. Sam__ NY Says:

At 35 seconds, it looks like the Hing speed ring on a cloudy day.

  65. AlteredNicolas Says:

    Coooooooooooooooooool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  66. nick Says:

toyota try so hard and always fail

  67. Chrysus Says:

Would someone help me pick my jaw up off the floor?

  68. Azzer10 Says:

YESSSSSS!!!!!!! More tyre smoke and improved tyre sounds!!!!!
    Car looks amazing!

  69. psnmarc15 Says:

The smoke doesn’t seem any different from prologue to me, lol

  70. Flagmo-T Says:

Why are people mentioning Fuji when this is clearly High Speed Ring

It’s a mix man.. Fuji ( Old version DoH!! ) is among the clips.. It’s updated ya ( graphic wise ) but not modelling wise ( tribunes are all over the place today ) just a thought!! on making it as real as possible.. then this sure miss some working hours.. Hahaha.. sorry for the sarcastic laughter .. It’s looking great yes, and it will work too, but not following the spirit of GT5 just yet!! !!

  71. Paulo Says:

Wow, great tire sound and smoke effects, you know what this video needs though right??? HAHAH

  72. caasimun_18 Says:

    @ Paulo
please dont tell me its tire marks…? i guess it is although i thought i did see tire marks…and they look fresh…
    @AMG
    OMFG your an idiot

  73. Marcos Says:

Hey, did you notice the LENS FLARE effect at 41 seconds?

  74. Slimer Says:

    to hell with this game!!!!

LOW texture rez cloudss?! wtf man?! no SkId marks?! HELLO!? 500k polyGons!!!11 aw mah gahd! im telling my mom not to buy this game for me.

    /sarcasm

  75. Emu76 Says:

HSR, Fuji, Suzuka, I like the car but I’m more interested in any new tracks.

  76. Autavia Says:

“Free floating” intercooler not good, but this modified front end looks sooo much better than the original FT86. This level of aerodynamic modifying would be a welcome bonus.
Visually speaking, though, i’d choose the ability to change wheelsize, and colors of both exterior and interior before modifying the shape.

  77. Viktor Navorsky Says:

Now thats is a decent smoke effect…

They do have more than 1 employee my friend

  79. maxpontiac Says:

An FT86 with custom exterior kits and graphics on the sides?

Perhaps a teaser of the livery system?

  80. circa1990 Says:

    Woot for better smoke shaders!
Wonder if the wind tunnel is just for the trailer or if it might be used for tuning or something maybe?

  81. PeterWRC Says:

DJcorrosive! What are you talking about? Impossible to do drift in the TT? The TCS on 7? Did you try to turn it off? Me and my friends doing drifting wiith both cars. No bother. Ok, the tuned is a bit hard, but good fun anyway. The demo is perfect for drift. That’s the and of the story:)

  82. Sam__ NY Says:

    @maxpontiac

The Toyota FT 86 G comes with all that on it. So what you saw in the trailer, is what the car looks like once it leaves the Toyota factory.

  83. Judas Says:

My guess is that the wind tunnel is for photo mode.

  84. T. Lee Says:

This video is amazing. Probably the most revealing since the Madrid/Rome trailer. The level of detail is phenomenal. Pause it at the 00:30 mark, and you’ll see Polyphony has even rendered dandelions on the side of the track! Dandelions! The smoke as well! It doesn’t just fire out the back of the car, but it actually billows upward from the friction of the tarmac and tire! And I couldn’t help but to take not of the subtle gyration of the chassis at the 00:52 mark when both cars are doing a left-handed drift. I haven’t seen anything like this before. I already envision tuning every automobile in that wind tunnel to not only get performance data and modifications aspect, but also just to ‘ogle’ over my ride for the moment! I really think some of you have taken much for granted with the incoming barrage of GT5 info, harping on details insignificant until when we can ACTUALLY PLAY the game. Are we that unimpressed with the world around us that the graphical representation of these previews means nothing to us? Some fans.

  85. jamaicangamer Says:

NICEEE but the car sounds a bit lik the amuse s2000 from prologue :D

  86. Du3lz Says:

Can’t complain about the sound of the car considering it is a subaru developed boxer engine. The fact that the car’s sound even resembles the original 86 is amazing, however I do want to know what the rev limit is; on the standart and FT86G turbo version.

  87. dennycrane1 Says:

I just don’t understand why they still haven’t put in skid marks. I mean cmon this is the most complex simulator ever made and they can’t add something as simple as skid marks? I just don’t get it.

  88. Djcorrosive Says:

Peter you don’t know what u r talking about!
In the time trial you cannot adjust the traction control!!

  89. DDbeAll Says:

    @Djcorrosive

    Yes, you can

  90. wardo Says:

these trailers are really getting lame, just get the fucking game out the door already

  91. wardo Says:

what’s holding this game up is everyone now bitching about skidmarks, if you want em that bad go look in your moms underwear!

  92. Bank Alexander Says:

Who was 1st to negatively comment on the smoke? hha.

  93. depe01 Says:

@Djcorrosive: Yes, We can! For the Tuned car only though.

  94. Djcorrosive Says:

Hmmmm don’t think u can I’ll suss it out later

  95. andrea Says:

@Judas: I hope at least we will be able to flick some switches

  96. 8@No$ Says:

Very nice smoke and sound are better, i believe these WILL be in game and that the video represents gameplay… I think that when the game comes out we will not talk for a year :-)

  97. Big Ron Says:

The wind tunnel is just a rendered scene. Why do you believe, it is in the game? Do you think, the fighter jets of the E3 trailer are in the game?

Kaz info, you can tune every part of the car, is a fact, you can find in every GT title. You can nearly set up everything for your cars. But I dont believe, they put in tuning parts for over 1000 cars.

  98. iLex Says:

The smoke looks great, but I can see why it wouldn’t be there in GT5. It takes a lot of PS3 resources to generate that smoke.

I dont get why the tire sqeal can’t sound like that in the game. Or at least better than it does now. As sound in these games is (still) sample based, with a script deciding which samples will be played at each point in time I can’t see why they couldn’t make that better. It’s a case of upgrading the samples and probably add a bit more scripting. They have a department that should be capable of doing these things.
