Eva Longoria Parker
Golden Globe nominee, Screen Actors Guild Award winner, People's Choice Award winner, Bambi Award winner, and ALMA Award winner Eva Longoria Parker stars as 'Gabrielle Solis' on the ABC mega-hit "Desperate Housewives," but the actress' most important role is the one she plays off screen in her altruistic endeavors within the Hispanic and charitable communities. On the philanthropic front, she has been honored with countless awards for her achievements. She received the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts' Horizon Award, presented each year to the individual or organization whose work most advances the presence of Latinos in television and/or film. At the 21st National Hispanic Women's Conference, the Hispanic Women's Corporation awarded her the "Latina Visionary and Community Empowerment Award for her contributions to the Latin community. The conference is the largest gathering of Latinas in the country and provides leadership and professional development to more than 2,000 participants, while raising funds for college scholarships. Longoria Parker was also the recipient of the 2006 NHLI Mujer/Chair Award, presented to her by the National Hispana Leadership Institute for her significant contributions to the empowerment and well being of the Hispanic community. The Larry King Cardiac Foundation, in partnership with the American Heart Association, also presented her with the Corazones Unidos Award for her philanthropic efforts. Longoria Parker was also honored with the Hope of Los Angeles Award by the mayor of Los Angeles, and most recently was honored with the Cesar Chavez Legacy Award by the Cesar Chavez Foundation. In addition, Longoria Parker was presented with the Leadership Award at the Latino Leaders Luncheon where she was the keynote speaker, and was also the keynote speaker at the Philanthropic Summit. Longoria Parker also donated a house to one of the victims of Katrina through the Oprah Angel Network, and donated her whole one episode salary of Desperate Housewives' to Oprah's new philanthropic TV show The Big Give. Longoria Parker was also recently selected as one of 12 female celebrities, including Sienna Miller, Marcia Cross, Milla Jovovich, Emily Blunt, Susan Sarandon, Christina Ricci, Andie MacDowell, Sienna Miller, Helen Hunt, Lauren Hutton, and Mira Sorvino to take part in the "Montblanc Signature for Good" charity initiative to benefit UNICEF's battle against illiteracy.
Longoria Parker also has her own charities and organizations that are very close to her heart. She is the National Spokesperson for PADRES Contra El Cancer (Parents Against Cancer) for over 4 years. Padres is a non-profit organization committed to improving the quality of life for Latino children with cancer and their families, bringing them together with healthcare professionals and community leaders to promote a comprehensive understanding of childhood cancer and other blood disorders, as well as, effective methods for their treatment. They currently remain the only Latino organization of its kind operating within the United States. The success of the unique and inclusive program model is premised upon a health & education curriculum designed to be culturally relevant, family centered and community based. Longoria Parker first came to PADRES in 2003 where she began volunteering her time by visiting children with cancer while in the hospital and at PADRES family events. Since becoming spokesperson for the organization in 2005, Longoria Parker has personally contributed and helped raise over $4 million for the organization through her participation as chair of the PADRES' annual fundraising gala El Sueno de Esperanza, and other special fundraising campaigns. In addition, Longoria Parker is the honorary chair for Rally for Cancer, an exclusive car rally taking place on May 1st and 2nd in Los Angeles where up to forty-five luxury car owners will each raise online a minimum of $25,000 to enter their personal car giving them the chance to draft a Celebrity Navigator such as Longoria Parker. All money raised will benefit PADRES and Children's hospital Los Angeles. As spokesperson for PADRES, Longoria Parker continues to raise significant dollars to expand the charity nationally, and she continues to volunteer with the organization locally, spending time with the children where her true passion really lies.
In addition to PADRES, Longoria Parker works with the Special Olympics and founded the non-profit organization 'Eva's Heroes', which provides an after school program with an inclusive setting for individuals with developmental disabilities to interact, play, and grow with their typically-developing peers. Eva and her husband Tony Parker recently held their first annual "Celebrity Casino Night" in San Antonio, Texas, raising an astonishing $500,000 for the charity. Eva's Heroes also held their second annual "Celebrity Golf Tournament" this past October, after raising hundreds of thousands of dollars at her first golf tournament last year.
Last year marked the third consecutive year that she has both hosted and produced the National Council of La Raza ALMA Awards on ABC, which honors Latino artistic achievement in the television, film, and music industry. The NCLR is the largest Latino rights and advocacy organization. With her help, the ALMA Awards has earned its highest ratings since their inception and she continues to strive to make each year better than the next.
Longoria Parker is also working as an Executive Producer in collaboration with Academy Award nominated Shine Global, a non-profit film production company dedicated to the elimination of child exploitation and abuse through the production of films that raises social awareness and effects political change, for the documentary film HARVEST. The film focuses on the plight of the estimated 500,000 child farm workers whose tireless efforts help feed America. HARVEST presents compelling stories of a select number of children and their families as they travel from their homes in California, Texas and Florida to harvest crops in multiple states. The documentary presents the challenges these children face: unprotected by law, they suffer injury and exposure to pesticides, often working 12 hours a day 7 days a week in temperatures that can exceed 100 degrees. Now in early development, HARVEST will be shot during the upcoming 2009 harvest season and is expected to be completed in early 2010.
As the international L'Oreal spokesperson, she is a strong supporter of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, the leading independent, non-profit organization in the United States dedicated to advancing research, raising awareness and finding a cure. She is also involved with the Entertainment Industry Foundation/Callaway Golf Foundation, where she again raises awareness of ovarian cancer.
Longoria Parker currently works closely with The United Farm Workers (UFW), The Mexican American Legal Defense Educational Fund (MALDEF), the Dolores Huerta Foundation and The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), and the Cesar Chavez Foundation. As if that's not enough, she also recently visited her hometown Wendy's in Corpus Christy, TX, where she served Frostys to help raise money for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
Peter Cavazos serves as the Area Director/Senior Vice President for Citibank in San Antonio and is responsible for the branch network in Austin and San Antonio. Presently, there are nine Financial Centers that are in full operation in San Antonio and eight in Austin/Lampasas.
Peter has been working for Citibank for over 11 years and started his tenure at the Citibank Service Center in the west part of Bexar County where he served in various sales and service capacities. In 1998, Peter was in charge of the Direct Banking Unit for Citibank North America where he oversaw the remote account opening operations for the retail branch system. By 2000 serving as National TeleBusiness Outbound Sales Director, Peter Cavazos was overseeing numerous remote-banking areas for Citibank including outbound sales and service support and remote account opening for business banking customers.
In addition to his banking experience, Peter has served on the Revenue Committee for the March of Dimes WalkAmerica Campaign in 2006 and has supported the United Way of San Antonio while working at Citibank since 2000. Peter has been instrumental in the support Citibank has had for the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure in San Antonio over the past few years. Further, he is a graduate of Leadership San Antonio Class 31 (2005-2006). Peter also serves as President Elect for Community Development Loan Fund (non-profit supporter of small business development in San Antonio) and Eva's Heroes (non-profit organization headed up by Eva Longoria Parker supporting individuals with special needs). In 2008, Peter was selected as a member of the San Antonio Business Journal's Top 40 Under 40 for his leadership in the business and banking community.
Peter has his Group 1 Life and Health license and brokerage licenses including his Series 7, 63 and 24. Peter earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communications from University of the Incarnate Word in 1995. Peter is married to Diana who he met while both attended the university and was married at the Incarnate Word Motherhouse Chapel in 1994. Peter and Diana have 3 children.
David Damian Figueroa
David Damian worked for nearly a decade in the Latin music industry for clients such as Boyz II Men, Jose Jose, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Arista Latin, MCA Polygram, BMI Latin, and Motown Latino.
He later joined the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF). There he worked as Director of Public Relations & Creative Marketing under the leadership of its President and General Counsel, Antonia Hernandez. While at MALDEF, he publicized many of its landmark lawsuits. In 2009, David Damian was invited by Thomas A. Saenz, MALDEF's new President and General Counsel to return to the organization.
David Damian is the former Associate State Director of the Los Angeles County Region for AARP California where he oversaw the implementation of social campaigns, community alliances, volunteer management, membership development, and member value. He has a wealth of experience in working with diverse segments of the population. David Damian helped launch AARP's Segunda Juventud bilingual magazine as Special Editor securing several celebrity covers.
In 2008, David Damian was appointed by Los Angeles' Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to serve as commissioner of the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority. He has served as Chair of the Communications Committee for the Office of the Mayor's Complete Count - Census 2010 campaign for the City of Los Angeles.
David Damian serves as philanthropic advisor to several influential individuals and specializes in connecting celebrities to non-profit organizations, like Familia Unida Living with MS, AltaMed Health Servies, The Dolores Huerta Foundation, Farmworker Justice, The Cesar E. Chavez Foundation, and United Farm Workers of America. He is a former board member of Clinica Msr. Oscar A. Romero, Familia Unida Living with M.S., The Getty House Foundation, Advisory Board Member for the PBS flagship television station KCET, and currently serves as an advisor for Shine Global.
The Chicano Studies Research Center Library and Archive of UCLA maintains the David Damian Figueroa Collection. These materials document his career as a performer and an entertainment publicist, as well as his work in civil rights and public policy with MALDEF, the Los Angeles Homeless Service Authority, and the AARP, where he served as associate state director. The collection, which includes photographs, correspondence, ephemera, books, serials, and audio and visual materials, serves as a resource for researchers interested in Chicano popular culture and Chicano participation in civic service and civil rights organizing.
David Damian has been lauded by many elected officials and is the recipient of Family Unida's Living with M.S. Founder's Award, 2008 President's Volunteer Service Award and the Pasadena Playhouse District Association's Culture, Commerce, and Community Award.
David Damian, an avid collector of Chicano Art, resides in Pasadena, California and is active in the community and on a national scope.
Gisela Girard is the President/COO of Creative Civilization, a full-service advertising and public relations agency, which she and her partner Al Aguilar co-founded in 1999.
Girard brings over 20 years of marketing and research experience and as one of the nation's top advertising leaders and experts in advertising and marketing, leading the development, implementation and management of marketing campaigns for local, regional and national clients, including ING, the American Cancer Society, Tribune Corporation, Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Texas, Texas Department of Transportation, the Hearst Corporation San Antonio Express-News, VIA Metropolitan Transit, University Hospital System, among others.
Under Girard's stewardship, Creative Civilization has been honored with extensive public relations awards from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Texas Public Relations Association (TPRA) and the American Advertising Federation (AAF). Girard led the marketing and public relations team in award-winning public relations work for Kaiser Family Foundation, ING Presents Juntos en Concierto with Marc Anthony, Eva Heroes, as well as the San Antonio Opera. Gisela led the agency team in the marketing and public relations efforts for special performances by Placido Domingo and Andrea Bocelli.
Girard was recently named as one of the "101 Most Influential Leaders in Hispanic U.S.A." by Latino Leaders magazine and has been profiled in The Women's Issue of Latino Leaders magazine, the San Antonio Business Journal and Hispanic Business.
Recognized with the Women's Leadership Award for Business Growth by Crain's San Antonio Business Journal, Girard is a testament to her commitment to growing not only her business, but her clients business as well.
Girard currently serves as the 2009-2010 Chairman of the Association of Hispanic Advertising Agencies (AHAA), a national organization of firms that specialize in marketing to the nation's more than 46 million Hispanic consumers. Girard also serves on the board of directors as Vice President of Marketing for the San Antonio Opera, Chair of Communications for the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and serves on the board of ACTS Missions.
Prior to founding Creative Civilization, Girard was a demographer and real estate research analyst for FDIC, FSLIC, RTC and established a company to market unique real estate holdings in Arizona, Florida, Texas, Mexico and Argentina, as well as providing advisory services to property owners and investors.
She attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and is a graduate of St. Mary's University. She attended the Urban Land Institute's Real Estate Development School at the University of Wisconsin at Madiso,n and obtained a Master's degree in Urban Studies from Trinity University.
Charles Villafranca is a Corporate Economics Specialist in the Pricing and Margin Analysis group at Valero Energy Corporation. Prior to joining Valero, Charles worked for various consulting companies, including Accenture where he worked as a senior consultant. Charles earned an Executive MBA at The University of Texas at San Antonio and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Analysis at Texas A&M University.
Charles is very active in the community and is a member of both the Greater San Antonio and Hispanic Chambers of Commerce as well as a Board Member for both Eva's Heroes and VISION San Antonio. In addition, he serves as an officer for the Valero Volunteer Council and actively participates with the Christian Senior Services' Meals on Wheels program, City Year San Antonio, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and ChildSafe.
Outside of work, Charles devotes his time to his wife Adriana and their son Tristan. They enjoy participating in community initiatives, taking long walks in their neighborhood, playing in their backyard, and visiting the Witte Museum and SeaWorld.
Charles believes in leading by example and giving back to the community. He encourages people to get involved, make a difference, and leave a positive legacy.
