Maradona lashes out at Madrid's Valdano

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) Maradona has criticized Jorge Valdano, Real Madrid's director general and a teammate with Maradona on Argentina's 1986 World-Cup winning team.

Maradona, who took over as Argentina's national team coach 14 months ago, lashed out at Valdano on Wednesday for mistreating Argentine players with Real Madrid.

He was outspoken in a radio interview about Real Madrid selling Argentina defender Gabriel Heinze last year to French club Marseille, and he said Valdano was also trying to get rid of midfielder Fernando Gago. Gago is being little used by Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini, a Chilean. Heinze and Gago have been starters for Maradona.
