Yasuo Fukuda, Japan's prime minister, has called for those who run sumo wrestling to enact changes to protect young initiates after the arrest of a veteran coach following the suspected beating to death of a 17-year-old.
Mr Fukuda yesterday admonished officials of the Japan Sumo Association, the sport's conservative governing body, for tainting its reputation.
