Victoria pop star Nelly Furtado has joined Olivia Newton-John in the film Score: A Hockey Musical.
Furtado plays the supporting role of a fanatical hockey fan in the movie, now shooting in Toronto.
Writer/director Michael McGowan wrote the part specifically with Furtado in mind.
"Nelly is an incredible entertainer and, after speaking with her, I realized that she fully relished embracing her inner hockey fanatic," McGowan said in a news release.
Furtado made her acting debut in 2007 on the U.S. television series CSI:NY. She also appeared in the movie Max Payne alongside Mark Wahlberg.
The cast for Score: A Hockey Musical also includes such Canadian music artists as Marc Jordan, Dave Bidini and Hawksley Workman.
The movie -- filled with musical numbers -- is about a young hockey player who goes from obscurity to overnight fame.
It is slated for release in Canada on Oct 22.
