Every year more than 3,900 representatives of the media from over 80 countries converge on the Berlin International Film Festival. The Berlinale is not just a favourite with the general public, it’s also one of the biggest media events on the film industry calendar.
In the following we would like to give you an overview of the various services and facilities that the Berlinale provides to aid journalists in their work.

Press Facilities at a Glance
Most of the facilities specially for journalists can be found at the Press Centre. During the Berlinale, this is located on the first floor of the Grand Hyatt Hotel, directly opposite the Berlinale Palast. There you will find the press offices, press facilities, the press writing room, the press conference room and the photo call location.
Press Centre Facilities
Press Counter
The Press Counter is the central contact point for all journalists. The Press Counter issues accreditations and provides journalist with information about all Berlinale events. Information about press conferences, photo calls, interview opportunities and all other information relevant for the press can be found here or in the adjacent offices. Special photographer passes for galas with restricted access are also issued here (such as for the opening ceremony and awards ceremony). The counter is open daily from 9am to 7pm.
The offices of the head of the press department and the press secretary are located in the direct vicinity of the Press Counter.
Interview coordination and press material
Interviews with members of the International Jury, the Short film Jury, and the Jury for the Best First Feature Award as well as the guests of the Homage and the festival director are arranged by the Interview Coordination Office, located directly next to the Press Counter.
The press agent list provides contacts for interview opportunities related to films in the different sections. The list is regularly updated and will be published on the Berlinale website in time for the festival.

Press writing room
The press writing room has 40 computer workstations with Internet access. These are available free-of-charge daily from 9am to 10pm. The press secretary will be happy to provide more information at the telephone number 25920 707. Several “Hot Spots” will allow journalists to access the web via wireless LAN.
Ticket counter
The ticket counter for accredited journalists is located near the press counter. A festival press badge is all you need to access designated press screenings, so a ticket is not required. Press badge holders can get tickets to other films at the ticket counter on the day before the screening.
Press conferences
The press conferences for the Competition films normally take place after the press screening. Press conferences are also held for the films in the Panorama Special programme. The press conference room is located in the Press Centre on the first floor of the Grand Hyatt Hotel and seats about 350 people. As a service to radio journalists, the Berlinale also provides digital audio recordings (mp3) of these press conferences in their original language with English and German translation. The Berlinale compiles a daily press review which can be found in the joint office of the festival sections.
Photo call
The photo call with actors and directors giving a press conference takes place directly next to the press conference room. The photo call usually precedes the start of the press conference. Camera positions are allotted by the press office. Photographers must request a camera position by January 15 – we cannot guarantee that camera positions will be granted. TV camera teams will not be admitted to the photo calls. Corresponding TV material may be requested for copying purposes from the TV radio press office at predetermined conditions.
Photo service
Movie stills are available free-of-charge in digital form until March 15 for use in reports about the Berlinale. After a login password is set up, these images can be downloaded online. This service is available from January 15 to March 15. Additionally, daily impressions of festival activity, portraits of the festival director or section heads and poster images are all available upon request. The TV/Radio Office provides footage and audio clips of festival movies of all sections for TV and radio reports. Film clips can be provided for copying, but must be reserved prior to use. TV channels must copy the clips themselves. If they do not have access to copying equipment, a TV crew may use the press centre’s copying service for a fee.
The TV/Radio Office also provides in-house footage of press conferences, Photo Calls, Opening Gala, Award Ceremony, Honorary Golden Bear Award Ceremony, Presentation of the Shooting Stars and celebrity arrivals on the red carpet at Competition Galas which can be copied - for a set up fee - at predetermined conditions free of charge. A limited number of camera positions for TV stations / TV agencies exclusively are reserved directly at the press line next to the red carpet before Gala Screenings in the Berlinale Palast. These are also allotted by the TV/Radio Press Office and must be applied for at an early stage. Admittance to the press line cannot be claimed. The same goes for TV crews who wish to film during the opening and closing nights and any other special events.
The opening ceremony and awards ceremony will be recorded by a “pool” leader and transmitted in uncoded form via the satellites of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union). TV stations can use limited portions of this footage at predetermined conditions at no charge. For further information please contact the TV/Radio Press Office. Copy service for film clips
An external provider will offer copying service for TV clips for a fee directly next to the TV/Radio Office.

Interview Calls
Interview calls take place in the Partner Lounges and in Lounge 4 in the Berlinale Palast at Marlene-Dietrich-Platz 1. The Interview Call Office will organize rooms for interviews if it becomes apparent that there is a space shortage while planning interviews for your production. Staff in the Interview Call Office will be happy to provide more detailed information on technical and logistical matters.

Film press kits
Available press kits for Berlinale films are provided for download shortly before the festival.
In order to be able to use the download option, accredited journalists are provided with login information from the Berlinale press office. This password-only access is independent of your “My Berlinale” login.
You can then gain access to kits by clicking on press kits in the menu.
