3,4-Methylenedioxyphenethylamine (MDPEA), also known as homopiperonylamine, is a psychoactive drug and research chemical of the phenethylamine chemical class which acts as an entactogen, psychedelic, and stimulant, as well as an entheogen. It is the α-demethylated or phenethylamine analogue of methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA; Tenamfetamine; "Hug Drug", "Love Drug").

According to Alexander Shulgin ("Sasha" Shulgin) in his book PiHKAL ("Phenethylamines i Have Known And Loved"), MDPEA appears to be biologically inactive, likely on account of extensive first-pass metabolism by the enzyme monoamine oxidase (MAO). However, if MDPEA were either used in high enough of doses (e.g., 1-2 grams), or in combination with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), it is probable that it would become sufficiently active, though it would likely have a relatively short duration of action. This proposition is similar in concept to the use of selective MAOA inhibitors and selective MAOB inhibitors in augmentation of dimethyltryptamine (DMT; "Dimitri", "Disneyland") and phenethylamine (PEA), respectively, which has in fact proven to be highly successful in effect.

If MDPEA is indeed actually active as it very well likely may be, provided the circumstances are suitable of course, like other methylenedioxy- phenethylamine derivatives such as methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA; "Ecstasy", "Adam", "Empathy", "Molly", "E", "X", "XTC"), methylbenzodioxylbutanamine (MBDB; "Eden", "Methyl-J"), and methylenedioxymethcathinone (bk-MDMA, MDMC; Methylone; "Explosion", "Ease"), it is highly probable that it will function as a releasing agent (RA) of serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT)), norepinephrine (noradrenaline) and epinephrine (adrenaline), and/or dopamine.
