Frog Eyes Sign to Dead Oceans
It's been nearly three years since the wound-up, grandiose Canadian indie band Frog Eyes released Tears of the Valedictorian, their last album, though frontman Carey Mercer has stayed plenty busy with his work in Swan Lake and Blackout Beach.
The band has now signed with Dead Oceans, and on April 26 in the UK and April 27 in the U.S., the label will release Paul's Tomb: A Triumph, Frog Eyes' new album.
The band recorded all the album's tracks live. Below, check out the tracklist and hear the epic nine-minute opener "A Flower in a Glove".
Sigur Rós Frontman Jónsi Announces Solo Tour, Reveals Album Cover
Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi Birgisson is striking out on his own this year. On March 23 April 6, XL will release Go, his first solo album. And in April, Jónsi's solo show will come to North America for a full-scale tour, including a stop at Coachella. We've got all the dates below.
On his Flickr page, Jónsi has been posting photos of how his stage set might look, and we could be in for something seriously epic here. In the weeks leading up to the tour, he'll post more sneak peeks of the show on his website.
Also, that splash of finely etched color you see above? That's the cover art for Go, as Jónsi himself recently revealed on his website.
And last week, Jónsi and composer Nico Muhly performed together in London's Bethnal Green neighborhood. Super-arty, out-of-focus video of that team-up below:
Lil Wayne Does Bob Dylan's Part in "We Are the World" Haiti Remake
Kanye West, Brian Wilson, and many more contribute to charity single.
The original "We Are the World" video is still amazing to watch-- you don't get to see Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, and, um, Dan Aykroyd singing next to each other every day. And the forthcoming remake of the 1985 USA for Africa all-star song, to benefit Haiti, is looking to be just as star-studded.
Here's the head-spinning list of contributors, according to MTV: Kanye West, Brian Wilson, Miley Cyrus, Gladys Knight, Barbra Streisand, Pink, Nick Jonas, LL Cool J, Robin Thicke, Celine Dion, Akon, Rob Thomas, Wyclef Jean, Jeff Bridges, Vince Vaughn, Jordin Sparks, Good Charlotte's Madden brothers, Tony Bennett, Josh Groban, Snoop Dogg, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Hudson, Keri Hilson, Jamie Foxx, Tyrese, Katharine McPhee, Sean Garrett, will.i.am, Carlos Santana, Melanie Fiona, Enrique Iglesias, Toni Braxton, Jason Mraz, Busta Rhymes, Nicole Scherzinger, Nicole Richie, Usher, Julianne Hough, Raphael Saadiq, Zac Brown, India.Arie, Randy Jackson, Musiq Soulchild, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, Fonzworth Bentley, Kid Cudi, Iyaz, Bizzy Bone, Nipsey Hussle, Al Jardine, Trey Songz, Faith Evans, Mya...
...and Lil Wayne, who will reportedly recreate Bob Dylan's part from the original (which comes in at the 3:45 mark).
No word on who does the Huey Lewis part.
Another New Joanna Newsom Song!
"Good Intentions Paving Company"
Have One on Me, the new Joanna Newsom triple album, is due February 23 from Drag City, and we're slowly finding out more and more about it. And now the Drag City website is streaming another new track from the album, the stripped-down, country-inflected, seven-minute "Good Intentions Paving Company".
Last week, when Drag City premiered the album track "81", the resulting wave of web traffic overloaded their website, so hurry up and click on this one while you can!

Girls to Tour With Dum Dum Girls
Some things just make sense
Girls photo by Sandy Kim, Dum Dum Girls photo by Lauren Dukoff
It had to happen eventually. Both bands have the word "Girls" in their names, though only one is comprised of actual girls. Both combine classic oldies radio popcraft with garage-punk scuzz. Both look really cool in their promo photos. And this spring, they'll finally meet.
As the Matablog announces, Girls will hit the road again for another North American tour late in March, and they'll bring predestined soulmates Dum Dum Girls along with them. It's a Girlsapalooza!
Court Dismisses Fucked Up/Xiu Xiu Rolling Stone Camel Ad Lawsuit
Back in 2007, Rolling Stone printed an issue with a four-page fold-out section called "Indie Rock Universe," listing off tons of indie bands and interspersing the music chatter with ads for Camel cigarettes, which touted Camel's commitment to independent labels. This didn't go over well with many of the artists mentioned.
Sleigh Bells Announce Tour With Yeasayer and Major Lazer
Big things are ahead for the Rising Brooklyn noise-dance duo Sleigh Bells. They still don't have a record out or a label deal, but in the coming months, they'll play Coachella and tour North America opening for both Major Lazer and Yeasayer, exposing the audiences of two very different groups to their uniquely blown-out pop music. We've got all their dates below.
Thanks to Scott Curtis for the tip.

Hear Peter Gabriel Cover Bon Iver
Peter Gabriel's forthcoming all-covers album Scratch My Back features the former Genesis frontman giving his take on tunes by bands like Arcade Fire, Radiohead, the Magnetic Fields, and more. And now Stereogum has the stream and download of one of the more intriguing track selections: Bon Iver's lo-fi falsetto-fest "Flume".
Gabriel's version is much more heavily orchestrated, and pitched way lower, but you'll know the tune when you hear it. Click here to hear it. And if you haven't already, check out Gabriel's cover of Arcade Fire's "My Body is a Cage" here.
