The editorial cartoon above was drawn in 1906 and publicized the inevitable coming showdown between pro football's dominant teams of that era.  This is an early example of the type of images that are featured on this page.  Throughout the history of the American football, the idea of a final showdown game has intrigued the fans.

Every year since the inception of the Super Bowl, editorial cartoonists from newspapers and magazines throughout the nation have hyped that year's Super Bowl. Since my childhood, I have collected these and assembled them below. Each year I find my favorites. As with any news or sports reporting endeavor, some guys get it and some guys don't. This collection is what I feel are the most artistic and insightful pieces from the respective years. Each cartoonist has caught the essence of the event in theme, beauty or sarcasm. It is what I consider the "Hall of Fame" of Super Bowl editorial cartoons. The artwork is the property of the respective cartoonist and they are noted where possible. I share them here out of appreciation for their work. As the newspaper industry in this country faces increased pressures that threatens survival, this is a special area of media that we cannot let die.
