MANILA, Philippines—The National Bureau of Investigation has filed murder charges against a man for allegedly killing his neighbor who accidentally spilled urine on him.
Charged with murder at the Manila Prosecutor's Office was Noel Cayabyab, alias “Johnny Cayabyab,” a resident of Felix Huertas corner Bambang Streets, Sta. Cruz, Manila.
The case stemmed from the complaint of Lael Morada, 48, aunt of victim Rolly Contemplo.
Investigation conducted by the NBI Special Task Force showed that the shooting incident happened around 3 a.m. last November 21 at the suspect's house in Sta. Cruz.
The suspect's son, John Paul, was also charged with murder because he was allegedly the one who handed the gun to his father, the NBI said.
Prior to the incident, Contemplo, who was apparently drunk and who was staying at a room directly above the suspect's, had urinated into a plastic water bottle. However, the victim's urine spilled and leaked down to the ground floor, accidentally hitting the elder Cayabyab, who was then sleeping.
An irate Cayabyab went upstairs and confronted Contemplo, who explained that what happened was an accident.
A witness told NBI that the victim even followed Cayabyab downstairs to apologize. But the suspect apparently refused to heed the victim's apology.
The witness added that he heard the suspect ordering his son to get his gun, to which the latter obliged.
When the elder Cayabyab got hold of his gun, he shot the victim once in the abdomen, the NBI said, Contemplo died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
