Operating Hours and Seasons
This page lists Road Opening and Closing, as well as Road Construction information including a link to weekly construction updates. Yellowstone closes it's East, South and West Entrances during the winter. You will want to check here for dates the park is open before planning your visit. The North Entrance (Gardiner, Montana) is open year round to wheeled vehicles, but snow tires and/or chains may be required in winter. The Northeast Entrance to Silver Gate / Cooke City, Montana is open year round, but travel east of Cooke City is Not Possible during the winter season.

Weather Considerations
The weather in Yellowstone is highly variable and any trip here should be planned with all weather possiblities in mind.

It is impossible for our visitor center and wayside exhibits to tell the whole story of the Greater Yellowstone Area. We have nearby museums who help us tell that story. Be sure to visit at least one nearby museum each time you visit.
