Muskox Wool - Qiviut (Kiv-ee-oot)

Qiviut is arguably the finest wool available in the world. It comes from the Muskox, a prehistoric animal that lives wild and on farms in Alaska, and the Canadian Northwest Territories.

Qiviut, pronounced ki- vee-ute, is an Eskimo word meaning down, or underwool. The Muskox sheds its underwool in the spring. Combined with collecting shedded wool from the tendered animals and gently pulling the tufts that hang from them, each Muskox provides about four to six pounds of wool a year.

Eight times warmer than wool and extremely light weight and soft, Qiviut is one of the world's finest natural fibers.

We sell Windy Valley Muskox brand. From a family owned farm in Palmer, Alaska.
