Kirklees Council, and the towns and villages within its boundaries, support a unique mix of communities from a wide
range of cultural, religious and international backgrounds.
Together our communities provide a richness in experience skills, talent and ideas, which are the major strengths
of our district and make it such a special place in which to live, work and play.
As well as the tens of thousands of families who have lived here for generations, many other families from countries
across the globe have chosen to make Kirklees their home, settled into community life, and play a full and vital part in
developing our community. Many have lived here for a long time themselves and as families are in their second,
third and fourth generations, their children being born and brought up in our district.
The council and its partners place great importance on encouraging all it component communities to work together,
celebrate achievements together, and enjoy and learn from each other's different ways of promoting and contributing to
community life.
The council's own values and key strategies acknowledge, emphasise and pledge to provide services and support for the
whole community, and as far as possible for individual needs of those who make up our community.
Our success has relied upon, and will continue to depend upon, how we all embrace diversity in helping to build a strong
and cohesive community based on understanding and acceptance. In Kirklees we aspire to do that by helping people
maximise their potential contribution to their local community, and the wider Kirklees community.
The role of every individual resident of Kirklees is of equal importance in contributing towards helping to build a
sound, energetic, economically prosperous, healthy and culturally vibrant Kirklees.
