Nice to Meet You: Christopher Gerse (Will, DAYS)
— By Janet Di Lauro
Soap Opera Weekly: Is it true you speak Italian and French?
Christopher Gerse: Yes, beginner French. I learn French in school, and we learn Italian at home. (The Gerse family travels to Italy and Christopher's mother has had him and his little brother learn the language.) It's great being able to know different languages. In case you need to speak a certain language for a movie or something, you have it in you.
Weekly: Have you traveled to either country?
Gerse: Last summer, we went to Italy. That was so fun. It was my second time there. The island of Capri was my favorite place there. It was so cool, because we got to eat ice cream and swim on the beach. The water was so warm. I've only been to France once. That was the summer [of 2002]. I remember we went to the Eiffel Tower.
Weekly: How did you get into acting?
Gerse: I've always loved mimicking the characters in movies and TV shows, like Jim Carrey in The Mask and different Disney Channel shows and the Cartoon Network. I started taking acting lessons four years ago. I finally asked my mom, "Can I PLEASE be an actor?" I'm really thankful that she said yes and that she went through driving me [to all my auditions].
Weekly: What did you do before you got into soaps?
Gerse: I started out doing commercials. Then, I did some guest stars on The District, ER, and Hidden Hills. I did my first movie, The Whole Ten Yards, six months ago. It comes out in April.
Weekly: So how did you wind up on DAYS?
Gerse: I had to audition for DAYS OF OUR LIVES more than once. A couple of years ago, I read for Will. I was so thankful I got a callback, but I didn't get the part. Later, I auditioned for another role. I was really eager to get on DAYS, but I didn't get it that time, either. Then, I tested for Will again, last year. After I was done, they said, "Great, Christopher." They called me later and said I got the part. I was so happy to get on DAYS, because it's a soap opera. I've always wanted to have a recurring part on a TV show.
Weekly: Do you go to regular school?
Gerse: Yeah. So I end up still being on the basketball team and doing school plays. [When I'm working], I have to make up everything I've missed. I have to get in three hours of studio school.
Weekly: Are you anything like Will?
Gerse: I'm really not. I have a much better relationship with my mom in real life than on the show.
