Genome Sequencing Milestone Reached!
There are now 1000 complete Prokaryotic Genomes available in Entrez Genome.
See the full list of complete bacterial and archaeal genomes.
Microbial Resources are available
for search, retrieval, and analysis of all genomes.
Please be aware that NCBI is initiating changes to prokaryotic genomic resources
due to the large number of genomic sequences being deposited.
1. At some point in the future, strain-level taxids will no longer be issued to every
prokaryotic organism for which a genome sequence is obtained.
2. The Reference Sequence resources will no longer have records matching every GenBank
prokaryotic genomic sequence (both complete and WGS genomes). It is likely that only a
subset of representatives from a given species will be used as RefSeq records. This will
impact numerous Entrez databases, NCBI resources and tools, and a variety of FTP archives.
NCBI is currently examining how best to deal with these issues and will make additional
announcements on this topic.
Proposal to Improve the use of Locus Tags in Microbial Genomes
NCBI and ASM have a joint proposal to improve the use of locus tags in microbial genomes.
An updated search interface is available here.
Getting started
The names of the taxonomic groups shown in the above picture are hyperlinked and
represent preformed Genome Project database queries, enabling quick access to the
projects of that group. For example, clicking on 'Eukaryotes' will query for all
eukaryotic genome projects.
Sample Queries
Search for complete bacterial genome sequencing projects:
bacteria[orgn] AND type_genomic AND seqstat_complete
Search for all full-length cDNA, EST, and BAC ends sequencing projects for mouse and human:
(mouse[orgn] OR human[orgn]) AND (type_est OR type_cdna OR type_bac_ends)

We welcome all submissions to the Genome Project database. If you wish to submit
a project, use this form and follow the
instructions
provided.
