470 FIA GT logosIt might have looked like the last week was all about the Le Mans Series and the Le Mans 24 Hours as they announced their entry lists for 2010. But there was news from SRO Motorsports Group and its FIA GT Championships as well.

First of all SRO launched a new brand identity and logo for its 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship and the GT2 and GT3 European Championships.

Stephane Ratel said: “After more than 15 years of development in rebuilding GT racing we wanted to start 2010 with a new brand image that represented our new world championship status. We want to develop a global platform to showcase the fastest, most desirable and intoxicating cars, learning from our proud heritage but looking to the future with a new, strong, dynamic and stylish brand identity. “

Apart from the new identity there were also several announcements.

Swiss Racing Team already confirmed Karl Wendlinger and Max Nilsson before and confirmed Henri Moser this week. The young Swiss driver, who won the 2007 FIA GT3 European Championship, will join Wendlinger in one of the Nissan GT-Rs. Nilsson’s team mate is to be announced at a later date.

Jean-Denis Deletraz meanwhile surprised many with his decision to move to Hexis Racing AMR. After racing for Phoenix Racing in the last couple of seasons, in a Corvette C6.R and an Audi R8 LMS, the Swiss driver will move to the French squad to compete in the GT1 World Championship. Hexis regular driver Fred Makowiecki will join Deletraz in the Aston Martin DBR9. The line-up of second DBR9 of the French team is yet to be announced.

Reiter Engineering also named the first two drivers of its Lamborghini Murcielago R-SV. Peter Kox and Christopher Haase will share the cockpit of one of the team’s cars. Kox was involved in the development of the new R-SV, while Haase, 2009 FIA GT3 champion, is also very familiar with the team as he raced one of their Gallardo’s back in 2008.

On Wednesday and Thursday the GT1 cars were in action at the Portimao circuit. Vitaphone Racing, Matech, Marc VDS, Mad Croc Racing, Aston Martin Racing, All-Inkl.com Munnich Motorsport and Swiss Racing Team were testing their cars on the Portuguese track. Among the drivers testing were Thomas Mutsch and Markus Palttala (Ford GT), Bert Longin and Oliver Gavin (Corvette C6.R), Cesar Campanico (Nissan) and Andrea Bertolini (Maserati).

The test in Portugal was a balance of performance test, but due to the bad weather not much could be done for that. The next chance will be the second test session at Paul Ricard at the end of the month.

And our colleagues at Dailysportscar.com confirmed today that Trackspeed will run two Porsches in the FIA GT3 European Championship and one Porsche 997 GT3 RSR in the FIA GT2 European Championship. With negotiations still ongoing no driver names could yet be confirmed.
