What Fear Do You Know…Need Tips on Public Speaking?

I was surprised to find that fear of public speaking ranks higher than fear of death…aren’t you?

Do you have clients that come to you for tips on public speaking?  Do you need help yourself?  I have worked with many different people to help them get over their fear.

One of my clients in particular had great information that could help a lot of people but he was just too terrified to speak in public and didn’t know how else to get his information out in the world.

I found out that this fear stemmed from a report he had to give in fifth grade.  Something went wrong with the report and the poor guy became the laughingstock of the class.  This held him back from wanting to speak in public again.

What Fear Do You Know…Need Tips on Public Speaking?
Did you know that the impact you have on yourself is through the story you tell?  You need to change the story…just don’t do it drastically.  Don’t go from saying I’m scared of public speaking to saying I speak in front of millions of people…your mind won’t except this because it is too much of a jump.
By working on your fear at an inner level and changing your story there first, you will be able to make progress.  Switch from saying “I will never speak in public” to saying “I will do public speaking for small, local groups.”

Once this client had shifted his beliefs and made his presentation fun for himself by adding music, he was able to be confident in what he could offer attendees.

Turns out he was extremely effective in connecting with his audience because at the event, he sold his home study kit to 50% of the room!

When you need to do public speaking:
•    Prepare yourself first on the topic you will be discussing
•    Make it fun for both you and your audience
•    Be confident in your knowledge

You have less to worry about when you are prepared for what you will be speaking about.  Also make sure that you take care of any other concerns you have ahead of time so you won’t have to worry about it at the event.

When it is fun for you it will be fun for the audience as well because you will be connecting with them.

Be confident in your knowledge and know that people are there because they want to hear what you have to say.

I find public speaking most difficult. It seems that no matter how prepared you are, everythings seems to go blank when you get in front of a room of people. I try to be confident in my knowledge, but i still have those blank moments.

Practicing in front of a mirror is a great tip too. That way you can work on your facial expressions as well, to try to look more confident and/or relaxed.
Keep in mind that nothing can go wrong as long as you have a smile on your face !

I used to have a fear of public speaking. Now my fear is more a fear of being a social setting interacting in small groups. Its weird, I now love the attention I would get from a public speaking event. I guess people are afraid of social situations in some form another. Were all so self concious.

It seemed like so simple, but so true.
Relax yourself before that and gain more experience after speaking and speaking.
Good luck and thank you!
