The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is the global governing body of the Paralympic Movement. The IPC organizes the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games, and serves as the International Federation for nine (9) sports, for which it supervises and co-ordinates the World Championships and other competitions.
The governance of 26 sports (20 Paralympic Summer sports, 5 Paralympic Winter Sports, 1 Non-Paralympic sport) falls under the responsibility of different bodies:
The Paralympic Games Historical Database is a comprehensive collection of Paralympic Games results from 1960 to 2006. The database includes all preliminaries, heats and finals plus useful information such as scores, times, distances, etc, as well as the achievement of world and Paralympic records. Additionally to the Paralympic Games results, there are also results available from World and Regional Championships of the IPC Sports.
All data has been prepared in accordance with the original sources (eg, result booklets). However, the IPC offers no guarantees, expressed or implied, as to the accuracy or completeness of the information contained or referenced therein.

Classification is simply a structure for competition. Not unlike wrestling, boxing and weightlifting, where athletes are categorized by weight classes, athletes with disabilities are grouped in classes defined by the degree of function presented by the disability.
