Metagenomic Sequencing of the Human Gut Microbiome
Quin, Li et al., Nature
An international research team led by Junjie Qui of the BGI in Shenzhen, China, reports their metagenomic sequencing and analysis of the human gut microbiomes of 124 individuals, performed using an Illumina platform. The microbiome gene set is about “150 times larger than the human gene complement,” the team writes, adding that 99 percent of the genes were bacterial and largely shared among individuals in the cohort.
