Welcome to The Harvest Moon, a Lancaster County bed and breakfast. Come and enjoy our century old Bed and Breakfast, nestled in a timeless part of the world. The Harvest Moon Bed and Breakfast in Lancaster County boasts the talents of two chefs; your day in Lancaster begins with an "over the top" breakfast! Enjoy a part of Pennsylvania where the romance of horses and buggies roaming the country roads still exists. Relax each morning in bed conjuring up what your gourmet breakfast may be while you listen to church bells, being tolled in our country setting.  Then at the end of the day enjoy the area’s fine home baked PA Dutch cooking, which is prevalent in many Lancaster restaurants like Shady Maple.

New Holland in Lancaster County is just this place. The Harvest Moon Bed and Breakfast, in the northeast part of Lancaster County, PA, is nestled in a part of the world rich with Amish and Mennonite values. Furniture makers, quilt crafters of all styles , and of course, the many roadside stands where you can purchase directly from the Amish, are yours to explore while enjoying your sojourn, whether for pleasure or business. We are approximately ten minutes away from the villages of Intercourse and Ephrata. These two towns are filled with history, unique shopping, culture, antiques, and several fine restaurants. Strasburg being a quaint town only twenty five minutes away is where you will find the Sight and Sound theater. Round your get away off with a trip to Lititz; here you can find Wilbur Chocolate and Sturgis Pretzels; two great places for the Foodie in all of us.

The Winter is alive in Lancaster this year. Enjoy shows, small villages with Fire and Ice Festivals, and the beginning of the mud sale season. The Harvest Moon Bed and Breakfast is hosting The Great Lancaster Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe Contest till the end of March. We also have many Culinary Events  during the winter; see if one will put you in the spirit.  Also, don't forget about Cabin Fever . January through March is the time for savings, enjoy your second night of lodging at only $20.10. Use the cabin fever link for all the details.

While you are here take the opportunity to "Get Lost" in Lancaster's back roads. Discover our unique history in the area's architecture; spot one-room schoolhouses scattered all over the countryside and uncover the many forgotten covered bridges that dot our country roads in Lancaster County.

It's all about the food here at the Harvest Moon a Lancaster Bed and Breakfast, Your hosts, being chefs, tend to make the most of their training. The unique quality of the Harvest Moon comes from putting a special emphasis on the craft, history, and understanding of fine dining. We have put together several hands-on culinary weekends over the past couple of years that were featured in theWashington Post, the Lancaster New Era and the Budget Travel Online. There are a wide range of demonstrations available to our guests including: Italian, Holiday Entertaining, German, Holistic Weekends, and the ever-popular Chocolate demonstration during the month of February. We also do cheese and wine tours with an accent on the area's fine selection of quality wines and Amish Run Dairy Farms with real Cheese caves - Our cheese and wine tour is one not to be missed! Watch for future tours coming up.

Lancaster County is gaining in reputation as a destination sought after for its fine dining. With local ingredients readily available in our markets and road side stands, the choices are great for our area chefs to utilize. Lancaster County's Restaurants have gained in popularity over the past few years, bringing us to the forefront of fine dining in south central Pennsylvania. Be sure to inquire here at the Harvest Moon Bed and Breakfast about dining in the area.

We continue to grow on our ever-popular breakfasts. Our Inn boasts the talents of two trained chefs. Marlies acquired her degree while participating in an apprenticeship program in Germany and Switzerland before coming to America. Carl went to culinary school in Providence, where he also received a culinary certificate. We cater to all kinds of dietary needs, including those who are lactose intolerant and those who require a gluten free diet and suffer from celiac disease. We are sure you will start your day of exploring Lancaster County feeling content. We are always updating our breakfast offerings, giving you the very best in fresh and local larder direct from the farmers in Lancaster Couty. In months to come, look for new and exciting recipes on our own website.

Upcoming for 2010

Have we a year lined up for you. With new and interesting twist on both our tours and demos, next year is sure to be a winner. Now going into six years of great demos and "edutaining" tours, we continue to bring to you new and exciting things to see and do. Our push for our demos will be a "Farm to Table" (F2T) one. The day before the demo, we will actually go on the back roads and find some of the ingredients to produce a wonderful meal. And the tours; look out, the excitement is growing. Lancaster Unexplained tour and our Lancaster's Chocolate and Wine tour are two of the ones we have planned for this year.

Also, exciting news for 2010 is that the Quilters are coming. The AQS , American Quilters Society will be sponsoring a show at Lancaster's new convention center. The Harvest Moon has put together three different packages for those joining us during the convention. Your stay at the Harvest Moon away from the city will bring you out into the heart of Lancaster where the shopping for quilters is just about everywhere. We have arranged with our neighbors to do a demonstration on how the locals do their quilting. Also, when staying at the Harvest Moon, leave the car and don't worry about the driving; we will provide you with a pass for public transportation into the city to enjoy the days events. Find out more on our quilters page.

Check out our Turducken Recipe as featured on ABC channel 27 on Thanksgiving Day, with anchor Lisa Scullen and in the Intelligencer Journal.
