BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) Angel Cappa has been named the new coach of struggling River Plate, which is near the bottom of the Argentine league standings despite being one of the country's most popular clubs.
River Plate president Daniel Passarella named Cappa on Tuesday, a day after Leonardo Astrada was fired following a 0-0 loss to last-place Atletico Tucuman. Passarella did not say when Cappa would coach his first match for River.
River Plate has only 13 points in 14 matches and has not scored in 465 minutes.
