United States Australian Football League (USfooty)

US Footy

Footy in the US started with a couple of guys who wanted to have a kick. That kick became contagious and has continued to grow. From an embryonic set of 6 clubs that first formed the league we quickly grew to 24 teams within the first year and we now hover around the 40 club mark, representing 2000 players. To mark this significant anniversary, the USAFL Board resolved at their Board Retreat in February of this year to commit to the following goals:

  • To ensure that the USAFL will be recognized as the best run amateur Australian Football league in the world, including Australia.
  • To have 10,000 US participants in 10 years.
  • To work towards having 1% of the population in the US knowing what Aussie Football is about.
  • That the game will remain community based.

These are lofty goals but the Board is confident that they can be achieved.

2006 saw the setting up of the Australian Advisory Board, chaired by Terrence O’Connor AM QC and steered by Tony Fairhead. The vision of the Advisory Board is:

Friends of the USAFL, in Australia, who have a stature in both business and football, who are willing to advise the USAFL on business in Australia, the inner workings of the game in Australia and their general understanding of everything football.
