Overeem vs. Rogers, Arlovski vs. "Bigfoot" official for May 15 Strikeforce event in St. Louis

A pair of previously reported heavyweights bouts is now official for May 15 with today's official announcement of "Strikeforce St. Louis: Heavy Artillery."

As expected Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem (32-11 MMA, 2-0 SF) meets Brett Rogers (10-1 MMA, 2-1 SF) in the night's headliner, and former UFC champ Andrei Arlovski (15-7 MMA, 0-1 SF) meets former EliteXC title-holder Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva (13-2 MMA, 0-1 SF) in the co-headliner.

Today's release didn't state if Overeem vs. Rogers will be a title fight, and sources close to the competitors today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that an official decision hasn't been made about the championship status of the bout. Strikeforce officials could not be reached for comment.

The event takes place at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis and airs on Showtime.

MMAjunkie.com first reported the Overeem vs. Rogers fight earlier this month. Overeem initially said the fight would be a non-title affair, though he later told other outlets his belt, in fact, would be on the line. A few days later, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker told MMAjunkie.com a decision hadn't been made either way and that an announcement is forthcoming that "might be something that people are not expecting."

Overeem has not defended his title since November 2007, when he won the vacant belt by defeating Paul Buentello at "Strikeforce: Four Men Enter, One Man Survives." Since winning the title, Overeem has competed overseas, primarily with Japan's DREAM promotion, while extending his current undefeated streak to eight (which includes seven stoppage wins and a no-contest with Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic).

Rogers, meanwhile, looks to rebound from the first loss of his career, which also came in the highest-profile bout of his career. In November, Rogers met famed heavyweight and former PRIDE champ Fedor Emelianenko in the main event of Strikeforce's first-ever CBS-televised event. Rogers proved a game opponent but suffered an eventual second-round TKO loss. Prior to the defeat, he had 10 straight wins via strikes, and eight had come in the first round.

In the night's co-headliner, Arlovski fights for the first time since Strikeforce's initial St. Louis show, which took place in June 2009. There, he suffered a 22-second TKO loss to Brett Rogers, which followed a first-round knockout to Fedor Emelianenko at "Affliction: Day of Reckoning" six months prior. Prior to the back-to-back losses, the former UFC superstar had posted five consecutive wins and reemerged as one of the world's top-five heavyweight fighters.

He can get his career back on track against Silva, whose six-fight win streak recently came to an end with a close but unanimous decision loss to Fabricio Werdum at Strikeforce's November 2009 debut on CBS. Silva posted the win streak with now-defunct EliteXC promotion (where he defeated Justin Eilers for the title) and World Victory Road's Japanese-based Sengoku event series.

Had so much hope for Overeem Fedor fight. Can Overeem pass the test though? That's the question.

SheepleBuster on Mar 19, 2010 at 2:54 pm ET
By the way, what does Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion of the World mean? I mean the last part is really funny. Overeem is the StrikeForce champ not champ of the world. Same case for Brock. In fact, if there is anyone who can claim the whole "world title" it's the UFC champ. Am not bashing Strikeforce.

mmajunkie-staff on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:02 pm ET
Strikeforce technically has "U.S." and "world" titles. I don't think they recognize them anymore, but for awhile they did.

SheepleBuster on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:04 pm ET
Yes. I think it's a bit silly that they do it in boxing too. IBF HWC of the world, WBO, WBA, WBC all champions of the world. I don't think you should be able to call someone that unless there is one title. That's just me.

Strikeforce: St Louis tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. CT on Friday, March 26, at the Scottrade Center and on Ticketmaster. Don't miss it!

Thats from the shosports twitter thing

Niv on Mar 19, 2010 at 11:45 pm ET
Until there are full cross promotions where top ranked fighters regardless of where they fight get together and hash this out, the UFC Champ is just champ of the UFC. Same goes for SF, etc.

Sorry to burst your bubble but that's the way it is.

At least Fedor carries the WAMMA belt which is rankings by a group of people associated to the sport voting on who's number 1.

Maybe not perfect, but it's a start, now all we need is for the UFC to play along and prove they're the best.

SamMMAFanBronx on Mar 19, 2010 at 2:57 pm ET
I wonder if this will happen for that reason.

I don't see why this should not be for the Heavyweight Title.  So what Rogers lost to Fedor by TKO, others have fought for titles after losing their last fights (Randy Couture and BJ Penn several times).  Since SF never had the balls to stripe Overeem of the title it might as well be for the paper title, that would set up a nice rematch if Rogers beat Overeem, that fight with Fedor was very exciting IMO.

Maykussum-Do on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:56 pm ET
The only good I wish would come out of the Overeem/Rogers fight; Rogers whoops Overeem somehow, Fedor and M-1 strike a deal with the UFC, we get to see Fedor take his final test/s before the end of 2011, maybe get to see Brock vs. Fedor afterall.  No offense Coker, but as a Fedor fan, that's what I'd rather see.

MARCUS_THE_GREAT on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:38 pm ET
i agree! i dont think there is anyone in strikeforce that deserves a shot at fedor. i believe fedor can be beat but only by

a worthy opponent. roger was worthy with a undefeated record but overeem, werdum, big foot silva, lashley, none of those guys have earned the right to fight fedor!! yea it possible they could win,but they well never get the respect.

everyone will say fedor is past his prime, so none of those fights make sense.

invencible007 on Mar 19, 2010 at 11:27 pm ET
+1 fedor does need to go to the ufc because hes all about challenging himself and theres no challenge in sf besides rogers and he already beat him but i would love to see them fight again.

Maykussum-Do on Mar 20, 2010 at 12:31 am ET
1. Whoever thinks Lashley deserves a shot at Fedor needs to admit that they just started watching Strikeforce in the last few months.
2. Couldn't Fedor use Roger beating Overeem as an excuse to leave SF for a lack of real competition?

wahlly05 on Mar 20, 2010 at 6:17 pm ET
u guys that are thinking that roger's is gonna walk thru overeem may have a rude awakening... reguardless of his ridiculous actions as of late, the guy has world-class striking and SCARY power, he's by far the better striker out of him and rogers, roger's very well could be going to sleep for the 2nd time in a row come may...

Maykussum-Do on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:42 pm ET
+2, this should not be for the belt, it only further mocks the idea of the belt.  I don't even want to see Overeem fight Rogers, is it really just a business matter that keeps Fedor from officially getting his belt even longer? (Bull, doubt it at least)

IDAHO on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:13 pm ET
Fancy Pants vs. Shaolin might happen on this card.

Not bad match-ups, plenty of heavyweights to go around!

bsam1983 on Mar 19, 2010 at 2:51 pm ET
Some way some how i see Overeem finding a way outta this fight. Few weeks we will hear of some sorta injury and

then 10 days later he will be fighting in Japan. If the fight does happen i hope Rogers KO's Alistair in a BIG way.

xXSPAWNXx on Mar 19, 2010 at 2:53 pm ET
Yup, definetely going for Rogers in this one. Overeem was surely on roids. No question about it. Seems to have gotten shredded not fighting in the US.

hansard85 on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:16 pm ET
Your telling me it's not possible to naturally put on 2 lbs of muscle a month for 2 years? He dieted to stay at 205 and he was young and had never totally filled out. I don't think the evidence is definitive either way, especially not enough to start talking sh*t about someone who could kill me with 1 punch.

Smada962 on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:49 pm ET
Just because someone can beat you up doesn't mean we can't question whether he has used PED's or not.  Its 2010 and the days of giving any professional athlete the "benefit of the doubt", especially when all the signs point otherwise, are over.   I, for one, cynical or not, refuse to live with my head in the sand.

Temeraire on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:54 pm ET
I'm with you dude.....I wouldn't doubt if all the Pride fighters were juiced from 2000-2006....We know coleman and kerr were, they admitted it.......you have think it was just too tempting to pass up, especially knowing your competition is likely doing it.

dutchmafiadave on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:53 pm ET
I agree.  If you look back at the old tapes he was huge months before a fight then cut WAY too much weight.  Now he can eat and lift as much as he wants.

mikeOxxlongg on Mar 19, 2010 at 5:50 pm ET
if you ever watched the last fight Overeem had with Sefo he was doggin Alistair about him being on roids so the press in japan ask Alistair if he was on Drugs. His replay "Im from Holland, where everyone does drugs".

Rogers vs Overeem better be for the title. I love Strikeforce but if they make that a non title fight its really gonna hurt there credibility, escpecially of Rogers wins, which is a very real possibility.

"Rogers vs Overeem better be for the title. I love Strikeforce but if they make that a non title fight its really gonna hurt there credibility, escpecially of Rogers wins, which is a very real possibility."

Their credibility????? You mean having a guy that was violently KO'd in his last fight versus the champ, who's roided up ass hasn't defended his title for years??? Yeah...they would hate lose that credibility.

Lee2 on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:02 pm ET
LOL - couldnt have said it better myself!!

killadakiller on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:09 pm ET
Whether Rogers lost his last fight or not doesn't really matter too much at this point. He is still there second or third best HW on the roster. (well find out which after the fight with Overeem) And if there fighting how could it not be a title shot. I would rather have him fight a guy coming off a lost to the no. 1 HW in the world, with his belt on the line than watch him beat up James Thompson in Japan. Like I said if its not a title fight that a joke. Rogers could knock out Overeem and it would shock very few people, yet Overeem would still be the champ and Fedor would have to beat him for the title. Come on noe, which makes more sense to you? The only other guy who I could see possibly getting the shot besides Rogers would be Werdum and there still trying to get him a fight against Fedor.

PoStOaKbOi on Mar 19, 2010 at 5:09 pm ET
exactly +1

SheepleBuster on Mar 19, 2010 at 2:52 pm ET
So if Rogers beats Overeem, what happens then? Fedor is #1 contender to a guy who he knocked out? I actually think Overeem will destroy Rogers and Silva will beat Arlovski. Fedor will then fight Silva for #1 contendership. Fedor doesn't want to be champ in StrikeForce. That belt doesn't matter. He is alredy #1 heavyweight.

LivingDedMan on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:03 pm ET
If it's not a title fight between Overeem and Rogers it'll make Strikeforce look like a complete joke. Makes no sense for someone to beat a champion and not get the belt.

Those are a couple cool fights to look forward to.

AndreEmelianenkovski on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:04 pm ET
Poor Bigfoot, who did he piss off to have ended up with this fight? Arlovski is hungry and looking to make a solid come back, and from evidence of his recent destruction of Fres Oquendo he hasn't slowed down a bit.

exzacht on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:47 pm ET
Oh man I totally forgot Arlovski was boxing Fres Oquendo, at a charity show.

So AA really put a hurting on Fres? Wow that's impressive.  Andrei's boxing must still be improving. Scary.

sealyaxe on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:03 pm ET
That seems like an interesting match up.  A win for either guy could put them one fight away from a title match with someone, if Coker ever decides to have another title match in that division.

rhinograph on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:06 pm ET
Why would this NOT be a title fight? Overeem needs to defend the title since he's held it hostage for over 2 years. If he's fighting in Strikeforce, it should be mandatory that it's a title fight. If not for Rogers, then put someone else in that is deserving of a title shot. I'm not saying that Rogers is not deserving, but if it's still a question, then put someone in there that will make the discussion about title or no title moot. Either way, the belt needs to be on the line and the next champ's contract will need to have a 'title defense clause', because at this point that title is a joke.

Also, if Overeem finds a way to pull out of the fight, then, no debate, Strikeforce should strip him of the title.

The only acceptable fight for Overeem in Strikeforce right now is one with title implications, whether that's Rogers or not.

KnuckleHead on Mar 20, 2010 at 2:10 am ET
I have a feeling the announcement they keep hinting to is Overeem being stripped of the belt. Then Fedor fighting Verdum for the title and winner of Rogers vs Overeem getting first crack at winner.

bkapow on Mar 20, 2010 at 1:16 pm ET
This kind of sh** would not happen in the UFC, or other promotions with their game together. As a champ, you gotta defend your belt.
Can you believe Overeem's had the belt since 2007 and no defense!!!?? WOW, scary stupid on the part of Strikefarce.

And how about a legitimate challenger for Fedor "the milkman" Unspellablelastname!

d_rok on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:08 pm ET
So Fedor can't fight April 17 and he can't fight May 15.

Does he have something else more important going on? Is he hurt? Can he and his management never agree with a promoter on terms? That would be a shocker.

SheepleBuster on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:11 pm ET
He was supposed to fight Yoshida but he might fight Conseco. Just kidding but you never know with Fedor. Maybe Bobb Sapp?

Rogers will ko Allistair
Arlovski will ko Bigfoot

Lesnar would OWN all 4 nuff said

skcus_niac on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:16 pm ET
overeem is gonna beat rogers faster then  fedor could.....bet on it

and yes arlovski is gonna dominate bigfoot, who is already all hype

HooDster66 on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:45 pm ET
I serious doubt overeem will take out Rogers fast.  Brett's a tough SOB and he comes to kill.  Overeem better back out like I know he will.

JohnnyBlaze1984 on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:21 pm ET
Yeah and on top of that he's still pissed about not letting the hands go in the Fedor fight, I think he's gonna come out and should come out guns blazing like he did to Arlovski, which was the only way I thought he had a chance in the Fedor fight but he didnt do it.

optimus828 on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:39 pm ET
if it was enough said,  you would realize that they're in strikeforce and not the ufc.

So, think before you post and just enjoy the fights.

Lee2 on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:16 pm ET
Lesnar would be lucky to beat Rodgers or Big foot

NewBlood on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:15 pm ET
I was a big fan of Andrei Arlovski. I still think he has the potential to be a champion (even in the UFC) despite his current losses. It's a stretch, but I feel he's a better fighter then he has been showing lately.

Temeraire on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:23 pm ET
I agree....I'm one of his loyal fans too....I don't buy all this glass jaw business......He fights in a division were if you get hit crisp on the jaw by any type of punch you'll go down.  If he has a glass jaw, then so does gonzaga, werdum, cro-cop, nog, and any other heavyweight thats been dropped.

His boxing is second to none in the HW division and his grappling is very solid, he just needs to tuck his chin, keep his hands up, move lateraly and not straight back, and not get over anxious.

iwillkou on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:26 pm ET
I like AA also my gf is a HUGE Arlovski fan id like to see him come back to the UFC but cut down to 205 i think he would be hell for people in 205 if he stayed in heavyweight id like to see him gain a little more weight.

JP on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:36 pm ET
There is no way AA could get down to 205 without cutting off a leg. He weighs 245lbs and he carries very little body fat. It just isnt' possible. I don't think he needs to gain any more weight either. In fact I think that would be a bad idea. It's not like he is getting overpowered by any opponent he has fought. If he added weight it would screw with his speed and stamina. His speed is one of his biggest weapons. It allows him to get off first and move around the ring/cage.

Temeraire on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:41 pm ET
Agreed,  Nothing is really broke on AA except his striking defense and avoidence maneuvers.

bkapow on Mar 20, 2010 at 1:19 pm ET
I'm gonna disagree with you here. It's like a changing of the gaurd now, and guys like Sylvia, Arlovski and Monsoon are
on their way out. Andre had something once, but now it's like he's got a mental problem with executing, or maybe his tools
just aren't the same.
Luckily, he'll always have a home somewhere given his past success, just no longer in the upper echelon of this sport.

HooDster66 on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:08 pm ET
I'm a hardcore AA fan forever.  I would like  to see the eye of the tiger back and a vintage AA KO.

onewayTiket on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:20 pm ET
the problem is they cant please everyone.....if its for the belt....the InternetWarriors will rage that Rogers got a title after a loss....if they fight without the title on the line....they are JOKES....hmmmm yeah cant please everyone...

PS cant wait for this card, i hope AA KOs Bigfoot and also Roger Vs Megareem is going to be fireworks

skcus_niac on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:28 pm ET
basically it s a joke either way,  overeem should fight werdum for the title, winner gets fedor this summer, rogers should be fighting big foot or better yet rematch arloviski since the first fight was probably just arlovski not being prepared, if your gonna do match ups and try to be a legit promotion rather then just a fight club with random matchups,  you have to atleast have some match making that makes sense........the only people srikeforce is trying to please are the CBS executives, rather then trying to reorganize there roster with any kind of real match making effort

iwillkou on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:32 pm ET
FINALLY someone hit the nail on the head SF down fall will be the poor matchups and trying to hard to please CBS executive pockets.

so you 2 are telling me you dont want to see Rogers VS UBereem? wow
you know what todays MMA fans (not all but most) are like 16 year old girls.....CRY CRY CRY...BITCH BITCH BITCH WTF? are you telling me that you would not watch this fight? i dont care what promotion...i dont care what belt.....these 2 are legit HW. WTF is wrong with these people? am i alone on this one?

DrKillByDeath87 on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:25 pm ET
yea one way you are alone.. lets compare this scenario to another one.. Lets say someone can either give you 50 bux or 100 bux... now you end up getting 50 bux.. are you gonna bitch about getting 50 bux for free? probably not.. but are you gonna think "damn i cud have had 100 bux" yea u shud.. So while these fights are gonna be pretty decent... if the matchmaking of SF was existant we could potentially have much better fights.. you following here??

onewayTiket on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:42 pm ET
lol REALLY? wow i guess im just different ...and i dont Bitch like a 16 yeah old high school girl...in my opinion this is a solid card and either w/ or w/out belt its going to be FUN fights to watch.....FOR FREEEE!

Actually you are bitching about people bitching. Its a fine line to walk but you crossed it. Sorry.

onewayTiket on Mar 19, 2010 at 6:26 pm ET
im not really bitching im just tired of people acting like whatever Sf does is BS and a JK....tired of UFC nutthuggers blasting SF for no reason. and as far as  the orgs being organized dont forget they have been doing MMA shows for only few years....so eventually everything will come together...

skcus_niac on Mar 19, 2010 at 5:35 pm ET
no basically u just like a fight, you don't care about organized MMA as an organized sport.   keep the " we'll just put on fights  so we can create a card so people can watch" attitude  at the amateur level. this is profession MMA  it needs to be a sport before its an entertainment, for CBS/SPIKE/SHOWTIME/VERSUS to just get there ratings. if mma does not organize and become legit  it will remain next to boxing and never break out into the mainstream, on network t.v with tens of millions watching each month..........noone's crying about anything, some of would rather see success then failure  and this match up fails

onewayTiket on Mar 19, 2010 at 6:31 pm ET
skcus_niac ....it fails cuz you think so? also you dont know me and please dont assume things...i have been watching MMA for over 15 years....so please keep your dumb ass remarks 2 yourself, of course i want MMa to be main stream, but for a casual that will turn in to watch SF for the fist time and see these 2 fighting it will be a good fight to convert them to an MMA fan.

skcus_niac on Mar 19, 2010 at 9:24 pm ET
how many years and how many CBS events will you say " for the casual fan, when they tune they will see this fight and become a fan" that sh*t cant be anything farther from the truth, i shouldn't assume anything about you? and you assume a "casual" will tune in to this fight and become a what? a hardcore? gimme a break,  its 2010 if anyone over the age of 16 has not heard of or have watched MMA then they probably won't, if there not a fan by the age of 21, then they probably won't be, atleast nothing more then a casual on looker who catches an event at the bar they happen to be in or at a friends house who happens to be watching it. You should try being more realistic. Fans like you crack me up, " oh i been watchin for 15 years"  "iam a hardcore fan"  " i love all mma"  "free mma you can't beat that" "hey a fight is a fight and i love fights"  what a load of crap,

and yes this matchup  fails

BlackBeltInSmackTalk on Mar 19, 2010 at 10:34 pm ET
+1 I totally agree. That whole I have been a fan for "x" amount of years schtick is just stupid. If you have been a fan for 15 years that somehow makes your opinion more valid then anyone elses?

I also agree with this match-up failing, it fails on many levels which have been discussed at length. However since the "hardcore 15 year fan" probably doesn't read very well I will put them here again for his benifit. No need to thank me.

This match-up fails when you have a champ fighting that hasn't defended his belt in 2 years and is fighting a guy who got knocked out by the true number one contender. I don't care if you have been a fan while you where still in your mothers womb, if you think this match-up doesn't fail then you obviously do.

mikeOxxlongg on Mar 19, 2010 at 7:38 pm ET

What's the point of a non-title fight involving a champion? Every time the champ is involved it should be a title fight.

PoStOaKbOi on Mar 19, 2010 at 5:20 pm ET
agreed the champ shouldnt fight in a nontitle fight ever unless its a dierent wieght class

cannot wait for this event.

Strikeforce is doing BIG things this YEAR!   much congrats

THE UFC i know for sure will one up Strikeforce and also we GOT DREAM also doing BIG things and BELLATOR

I LOVE THIS SPORT.

WAR MMA.

skcus_niac on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:34 pm ET
dream is on repeat, every year is the same  ol' same 'ol , same fighters, same events, same guys winning when there suppose to against lesser comp

JustBleed on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:23 pm ET
I'd bet $10,000 that skcunksRus-niac does NOT get HDnet.

The Dream v Sengoku event at the end of the year(about 7 hrs live) was epic and fantastic!!!!!!!!!

And DREAM trades fighters with Strikeforce and Bellator.

PEOPLE, there are other promotions out there with talent that ranks within the top ten of the world. Period.
You just don't know about it cause you don't have HDnet, FSN and Showtime.

Temeraire on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:45 pm ET
come on...his name is cain_sucks... backwards......he's just a guy that trolls the SF and Dream articles bashing them....he did the same thing under the screen name "i_dont_know"  rarely will you find him actaully post on a UFC or WEC article.

skcus_niac on Mar 19, 2010 at 5:28 pm ET
your a genius, you can read backwards like noone else can,  sorry this is the only name i use, iam not  "i_don't_know"  maybe your "nick_havok"   see  who knows

skcus_niac on Mar 19, 2010 at 5:26 pm ET
i know the truth hurts,  but i hope you didnt bet that money cause actually i do get HDnet, doesn't mean i watch it though, you should take that 10k and bet on every dream fight this year, it's all to obvious who win's with the match ups they have.............same sh*t different day dude, open up your mind and let reality in

It's shaping up to be another great Strikeforce card.

madman81 on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:34 pm ET
Arlovski needs this win in a bad way.  Big Foot is no joke and i think he shouldve gotten the W over Werdum IMO!

Im not a fan of Overeem at all and hope Rogers destroys him!

NewBlood on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:34 pm ET
AA @ 205 would be redic. I wonder what his walking around weight is. He could probably make the cut.

I think people would agree that AA was a different fighter the minute Tim Silvia KO'd him. He used to fight aggressive and it work 9/10. TS knocks him out and every fight after that (in the UFC anyway), he came back timid and didn't push the pace. AA is a beast and I think this slump is mental. Hopefully he'll overcome it. He's still young.

optimus828 on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:39 pm ET
AA is pretty big.... he's like 240+ and pretty solid.  Don't think he'd cut to 205 ever.

iwillkou on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:45 pm ET
I dont think AA is afraid to be hit because even after he got ko by Silvia he came back and in their next fight stood toe to toe with Silvia for 5 rounds. However i will agree Arlovski's problem is mental it always has been i mean just look at what he has been doing he doesnt know if he wants to be a boxer a mma fighter or just a playboy.Thankfully though he seems to have his head screwed back on right and if so SF hw division could see some changes.Still i maintain if he should drop to 205 be afraid be very afraid because he could easily make the cut.

im taking rogers on this, without the sqeeze i think overeem will too weak and small and i thing bretts the better boxer w better chin

WAR ROGERS!

KRIS27 on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:42 pm ET
There is always something with SF>

Even when they announce a solid card of fights, two good HW fights, they dont even know if it is a title fight or what, this is the kind of stuff that makes alot of people think they arent a legit org, they dont know what they are doing, even when they make a good card, its like there is still questions, they dotn know if its a title fight or not?

What are they doing?

Either say yes it is, or no its not, they dont know whats going on with Fedor, they just are, I dont know, if they say its a title fight, they look like a joke giving a guy who just lost a title shot, fi they say no, ok, do a tournament then, but they cant even gaurantee Fedor is gonna fight, or who or when he will fight again, so you cant announce a tournament if Fedor isnt locked in.

AndreEmelianenkovski on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:45 pm ET
Overeem is going to fold Rogers in half with a barrage of knees early in the 1st. No way Rogers has anything more than a punchers chance.

retrofitting123 on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:48 pm ET
a good punchers chance!!

onewayTiket on Mar 19, 2010 at 3:51 pm ET
thats what i was thinking befor he fought Fedor...but after the fight i was more impressed by Rogers. ill give him much more then a punchers chance.

Roger's by brutal K.O. nuff said fools!

knightboy624 on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:03 pm ET
im so upset with sf! they give us 3 great title fights.   then the next month they are giving us two heavyweights fight that can only lead to fierworks!    give us great new prospects like kennedy, rockhold and beerbohm.  they try and give to always give us fights that are incredibly exciting  like lawler vs manhoef and fedor vs rogers.  we dont pay even close to 45-55 dollars!

but those darn buttlickers wont let us know totally whats going on so we can bash them and nit pick everything right up to the time of the fights!darn them, you guys are right they do suck.

anyway

arlovski ko 1st

BlackBeltInSmackTalk on Mar 19, 2010 at 5:34 pm ET
This is like the third time you have done this, I know your reading skills are below par but there is no H in Overeem. And stop being a StrikeForce ---------.

Exile252 on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:05 pm ET
I might join strikeforce, lose a few fights, then I'll get a titleshot against Mendez and Aoki

knightboy624 on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:16 pm ET
or you could fight at 165 only, then get a shot after never fighting in the weight class! [vitor]

or you could lose to grey maynard and even if he has never lost you can jump him and have no chance against penn on a card of a bunch of fighters who have no chance!112

maia no chance
edgar no chance
renzo- same thing that happen to royce, hughes is way stronger

rush16 on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:32 pm ET
I think Maia has a chance. I agree about Edgar( dont think ANYONE at 155 stands a chance against BJ), but I think he'll make it a more competitive fight then Kenflo or Sanchez, Edgar will be prepared and tough to finish. As a Penn fan though I hope Penn completly dominates and there's a highlight finish, one more fight or two then Penn needs to move back up to 170 and make sure he's in shape this time.

I hope A.Silva loses though, I think Maia or Sonnen have decent chances of beating him. I wanted Sonnen to get the fight because I dont think theres anyway A.Silva would defend those takedowns and he would definitly get a beating with Sonnen on top.

iwillkou on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:40 pm ET
The Prodigy will only move up if GSP moves up.Also Sonnen as well as Maia have no chance because Hendo a much better wrestler than Sonnen had hell with The Spider and got beat down in the 2nd and Maia is kinda like Leites just with a little more striking but not anywhere near to where he is going to want to stand with Silva so i see him trying to flop onto his back a lot also.

youknow9129 on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:54 pm ET
im pretty sure bj wants another crack at gsp all though im not sure y he got beat down pretty bad the second time they fought
i think if bj would have wieghed in at 155 to fight gsp he would have done a lot better but stilll lost
gracie is old and worn out but hughes isnt the same fighter he once was and the fight could go either way
the only way maia could win is if he does a flying armbar or something which is a possibility
i think edgar has a pretty good chance to beat bj but he wont
his boxing is a lot better he has great wrestling and he seems to have a lot more pop in his haymakers now a days
jmo

rush16 on Mar 19, 2010 at 5:39 pm ET
The only reason BJ wants to go back up to 170 is to fight GSP. It doesnt sound like GSP is interested in moving up a weight class either.

Hendo tried to strike with Silva which was a big mistake, in the 1st round Hendo got of hold of Silva and took him down with ease. Didnt do much on top but IMO Hendo has never had the greatest GnP in the world, Sonnen is much busier on top then Hendo.

knightboy624 on Mar 19, 2010 at 5:01 pm ET
alot of valid points you make.

but sanchez had never even been finished by a ww let alone a lw, and edgars striking  is alot better then sanchez, but to say sanchez doesnt finish with alot greater power and aggression!  over edgar, come on he almost always go to dec.       edgar done 3 mins in.

maia has a way better chance then edgar but he has to get him down.

edgar 1-3 percent of winning at most!
maia maybe 10 percent!

iwillkou on Mar 19, 2010 at 5:05 pm ET
You sir are a kool aid drinker

edgar .5 - 2% chance
Maia 5% chance and thats ONLY if The Spider has "HELP ive fallen and cant get up" otherwise -5% lol

rush16 on Mar 19, 2010 at 5:55 pm ET
WTF is a kool aid drinker? I use to drinks lots when I was a kid, blue lemonade was the best kind.

I find it funny how alot of people wanted to see Maia vs Silva before the Maquardt KO, but after that Maia became a joke to everyone. I am the only one on this site that realizes some undefeated fighters actually get better after a loss? I donnu, everyone think A.Silva is superman after the Griffen KO, lol before that alot of people were picking Forrest to beat him because his 2 sh*t fights with Leites and Cote where he clowned around the whole fight( I was there live for Leites, wasnt fun at all).

youknow9129 on Mar 19, 2010 at 6:54 pm ET
i was there live for cote wasnt much better
people on this site hop from 1 fighters balls to anothers in a matter of seconds
i do it myself but theres certain fighters that i will always like and try not to knock on
liddell couture wandy rampage

rush16 on Mar 19, 2010 at 5:46 pm ET
I just think at LW Edgar is a better fighter then Sanchez. I mean you say he always goes to decision but so did Sanchez in his only 2 LW fights, and even at 170 he didnt finish anyone who was top competition. It would be pretty impressive for Penn to finish him in 3 minutes(although Penn can finish anyone in the 1st, even at 170), I dont see that happening.

bigbomtom on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:17 pm ET
bigfoot was dominating werdum that last go around, just seem to lose focus or confidence. i think he gon go along way. arlovki going to have his hands full. probably gonna rely on his speed.  FINALLY overeem will fight a not so much the best out there, but definitely the most dangerous since his domination of the headhunter. rogers will have only a punchers chance with his strengh in my opinion.i know he wont be having fun in the clinch either . one thing rogers will learn is who was the harder fight fedor or overeem  which his opinion i think would be very interesting win lose or draw. this card is looking to be ko fest with the big guys in sf.  dam sf keeps trying to bring it.

JustBleed on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:19 pm ET
Sweet!!!

I am hoping and guessing that they might make this card into a tournament of some kind since most are heavyweights.

NopeNotTito on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:23 pm ET
Rogers is less technical of a striker than Badr Hari and we saw how that last (Hari Vs. Overeem) K1 fight ended.  Also, i suspect that Rogers has the skills to touch up Overeem and make him sleepy.  Rogers will eat some leg kicks like he's never seen before and that may be Alistairs best chance to damage Rogers then finish him from there.  I'm actually very excited about this fight.

bdmcleod on Mar 19, 2010 at 8:41 pm ET
To clarify: that was hari's 4th fight in 3 weeks or something crazy like that. He was coming off a grand prix right before the overeem fight.
They fought again this past fall and ao got wrecked.
That being said. Ao by knees in the clinch.

bigbomtom on Mar 19, 2010 at 4:29 pm ET

I hope these two fights make to the actual event. praying there are no injuries in training.

How is Overeem not the favorite? It's Rogers taking the test, he failed his last one.

AA takes a dec. Silva needs to go for a finish.

How in the world do they even consider it a non-title match. Rogers is cool, but bottom line he lost to Fedor. Overeem is long over due in putting his title on the line. Non-title is an option thats crazy

Champion1 on Mar 19, 2010 at 5:35 pm ET
I don't get why everyone is saying Overeem is the "favorite" to win against Rogers.  Overeem is SUPER over rated.  He hasn't fought anyone good or close to his size for a long time.  I think Rogers is going to knock this dude out, quick!  Rogers is a legit threat at HW.  I hope Arlovski (although i'm a huge fan of Bigfoot too) can get a win.  People have been bashing him and counting him out a lot in this discussions, but the dude is a man-child and still very good.  He may have a "weak" chin, but look who has knocked him out lately....Fedor and Rogers.  I think both of those guys could knock ANY HW out if they were able to land a bomb.

At the end of the day, Brock beats any of them anyway :-)  Lesnar is the MAN!!!

edosama1983 on Mar 19, 2010 at 8:20 pm ET
Overeem beat some pretty good fighteres in K1, and it's unlikely Roger will take Overeem down

labonte48 on Mar 19, 2010 at 5:38 pm ET
Alright im pumped for this card... Oh wait I live in Canada and cant get showtime and absolutley nobody gets the super chanel. Strikeforce needs to take a page out of the wec's book and get on a sports station.

Overeem ko over rogers
arlovski/bigfoot=borefest

rush16 on Mar 19, 2010 at 6:00 pm ET
You might be right. I hope Arloski shows up to fight because he should be able to pick Bigfoot apart on the feet, but he might be real gunshy after the Rogers KO and well get another terrible Werdum vs Arloski type fight.

I also think Rogers is gonna get schooled anywhere this fight goes. He quicker, more well rounded and might even be a better striker. Rogers got in the top 10 just like Matt Serra with a lucky KO, ecxept I think Serra deserves to be top 10 and he a more skilled fighter. Maybe Rogers will ahve me eat my words but I dont think so.

bruno_sardine on Mar 19, 2010 at 6:19 pm ET
why don't they do fedor vs overeem and rogers vs werdum??  like, instead of the way it is now...

Both AO and AA by decision. Both will be sick fights though.

barrsmoke on Mar 19, 2010 at 7:47 pm ET
Does anyone know what Overeem weighs in at?  I've seen sights that show him anywhere from 215 to 260.

edosama1983 on Mar 19, 2010 at 8:16 pm ET
around 240 - 245 now I believe, as far as I know he has never weighed in at 260, I think 245, maybe 250 at the most.

barrsmoke on Mar 19, 2010 at 7:55 pm ET
I hope Rogers knocks Overeem the F%%% out!

Arlovski should beat Bigfoot, but that guy is huge.

And Fedor will destroy Werdum, no question about it.

This really doesn't make much sense though.  If the Overeem vs. Rogers fight is not for the title, and Rogers wins ... does that mean Fedor fights Overeem for the title next?  Not really the best at match making.

I do think Rogers has the best shot at beating Fedor even though he already lost to him.

Pidr0w on Mar 19, 2010 at 8:01 pm ET
I dont care about Overeem not having fought for so long under sf banner, I mean its not like theyve had a great roster and lots of fights for him anyway, but now that they do hes back!!!

Great match up, Overeem will have to do some of the old stick and move to avoid Rogers power hands.

And what about Fedor?
I heard hes fighting in the ASTRA event vs Hidehiko Yoshida...

Poeticguy on Mar 19, 2010 at 8:09 pm ET
It will be very Stupid not to make this a championship fight..If I were Rogers, I would only sign it, if its a Championship bout. This fella has not defended the title in close to 3 years..hurts his hand in a silly Bar-brawl, therefore unable to defend title against Rogers..finally he gets to face Rogers..SHOULD BE A TITLE FIGHT!!

MMALookyPeter on Mar 19, 2010 at 8:55 pm ET
dumb.... why does a guy who lost gets to fight the champ?  i guess they're adopting "dream" style of  doing matches.

dcragle on Mar 19, 2010 at 8:59 pm ET
It's insane to me that Strikeforce would even consider having Overeem finally fight again on US soil, only to put him in a non-title bout. That's just stupid. The man hasn't even tried to defend his title in two years! Yet, he has had eight fights in Japan, not to mention his K-1 and Dynamite! appearences. Is Scott Coker the same guy that called the UFC's heavyweight division "a mess". I really can't see the sense in risking your joke of a heavyweight champion getting knocked out out by a guy whose already been KO'd by Fedor, and then afterwards, still having to call this juiced up chump your heavyweight champion...now that's a mess! Please don't sell the fans short with that garbage! If the man's not going to defend his belt, let someone fight for it who will.

dmezzy on Mar 19, 2010 at 9:02 pm ET
Why does Rodgers have a title shot? He just got knocked out???????????

Poeticguy on Mar 19, 2010 at 9:46 pm ET
he just got knocked out by the number 1 guy..should BJ Penn given up his title by losing to GSP? Rogers was scheduled originally to face Overeem..there is really no one else in SF other than Fedor to fight for the title..Fedor needs a few fights b4 being offered title..MMA is not like Boxing..

WARARTIELANGE on Mar 19, 2010 at 10:25 pm ET
Your Fedor comment is baseless. For starters he is recognized as the best HW in Strikeforce by most observers and he is not some up and comer who has to earn his shot, he has earned the right to fight for the title in any MMA org in the world.

Also, I am a FEDOR and M1 HATER, but that comment was crazy.

TheFuture413 on Mar 19, 2010 at 11:14 pm ET
I think rogers deserves a rematch with fedor. He was knocking him until fedor caught him.
I really think rogers can beat fedor, but that fight did answer my question fedor vs brock. Brock would destroy fedor in 10 seconds. Well in reality it would probley be finished in round 2 cause brock would beat his brains out on the ground for awhile

slygoose on Mar 19, 2010 at 11:58 pm ET
I love the underdog but Strikeforce has me shaking my head.  First of all, any fighter that has a belt should always be fighting for that belt, no matter what.  The Mousasi thing and now Overeem just doesn't make any sense.  He should defend his belt but not against Rogers.  I think Fedor's management is ducking him for some reason or another.  It seems like they are just getting worse and worse.
So these 2 matches are certain but Fedor hasn't figured out a deal yet?  Times a wasting...  What a shame for such talent

Niv on Mar 20, 2010 at 12:01 am ET
I guess everyone that wants Fedor to lose so bad sees things in funny ways. Rogers had two moments in the entire fight where he landed a jab and broke Fedor's nose, and then some bombs on Fedor when he was on his back. That was it, I'm sure it excited you guys but let's not go nuts here. Fedor also threw the much larger Rogers around almost at will, and soon as he saw an opening boom Rogers head went into orbit.

Brock and all of his big 4 career wins would end up the same way against Fedor. Brock is maybe the most overrated fighter in mma history, thank God for him he fights in the UFC where you instantly become great.

Brock has never thrown one single punch with the authority that Rogers landed his flush on Fedor, with zero effect.

Anderi Arlovski is another here that everyone likes to point to how he was beating up Fedor but got sloppy. Now AA is instantly a nobody yet he won something like his last five fights, was 10-4 in the UFC and was HW champ.

Arlovski's performance was good, but it takes five rounds, doing well for 3 minutes against Fedor is front page news so I guess in many ways an admission wether you dislike him or not that he is the best.

TitaniumRay on Mar 20, 2010 at 6:36 am ET
Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, thats well respected. but to countinue to bash on Overeem and make it seem like hes not good enough to be strikeforce champ must not follow up on him. Hes is an exciting knockout artist since moving up to heavyweight with his hands, legs, and knees, and 1 of the best in K1. He has a lot of accomplishments in and out of the cage. He will have his hands full with Rogers but Overeem has a lot more tools then Rogers standing up Overeem wins by KO.

CombatSambo on Mar 20, 2010 at 1:51 pm ET
Could be a great fight don't know who to pick in this one.

Btown89 on Mar 21, 2010 at 7:58 pm ET
Overeem could very well be the only guy to beat Fedor. Allistair is going to walk through Rogers. 2nd round is as far as it goes.
