Nomination Guidelines

Eligibility

  • Nominees must be not less than 18 years of age on 1 January 2009.

  • Nominees must be Australian citizens or have been legally resident in Australia for a minimum of two consecutive years on 1 January 2009.

  • Nominees may only apply for one category of Award. Nominations may only be made by individual writers. Co-writers should nominate separately.

  • Previous winners of an APRA Professional Development Award are ineligible to apply.

Categories

The Award Categories to be reviewed by the judging panels are:

  • Popular Contemporary

  • Country

  • Jazz

  • Classical

  • Film and Television

  • Indigenous

How the PDAs are determined

The Awards will be made after a detailed selection process carried out by APRA in conjunction with each partner organisation. Short listed nominations are then considered by judging panels in each category which are comprised of composers, songwriters, publishers, producers and educators. The Awards will be announced in March 2009 (at a date to be advised) and presented at a function in Sydney.

How to Nominate

Select the appropriate category in which you wish to submit your nomination. You may receive an Award in ONE category only.

All information should be typed and submitted in a Nomination Document. Every detail requested must be submitted - refer to About the Nomination Document. Note: incomplete Nomination Documents will not be accepted for consideration.

Nomination documents must be accompanied by a CD (4 copies are required). Each CD must have 15 – 20 minutes worth of material or mp3 files if submitting your nomination via Sonicbids. 

For the Popular Contemporary and Country categories; lyrics must be supplied and for classical works scores should be included. Such materials will only be returned if accompanied by a stamped self-addressed envelope.

Every Nomination Document must be submitted to a Partner Organisation. Note: APRA will not accept nominations directly.

Envelopes should be marked "APRA 2009 PDA Nomination" and sent to the Partner Organisation of your choice, selected from the list overleaf. The Partner Organisations will review all nominations and provide APRA with an endorsed short list for further assessment by APRA. 

All nominations must be received by a Partner Organisation by Monday 1 December 2008.
