Historical photographs, as well as a selection of exterior views of the Berlinale venues and portraits of the festival’s important figures are available year-round. They are free of charge, but must be credited to the Berlinale when printed. The use of these photographs is only permitted in connection with editorial coverage of the Berlin International Film Festival.
You will find an overview of the available historical photographs in the
archive on this page. Exterior views and portraits can be found at the corresponding menu item. You will receive these photos electronically from the Press Office. Please send your request to
giving the ID of the respective image. The ID becomes visible as soon as you open the enlarged view of the image (Pop-up)
Film stills of current festival films from mid-January thru mid-March
From mid-January you will also be able to access
film stills from all the films in the Berlinale programme. From then on, the selection of stills will be continually updated. We ask that photo editors who wish to use this material in publications contact
. Once you have been assigned a password, you will be able to access current film stills in print quality. Please note that you are only permitted to use current film stills in connection with coverage of the festival and they must be used by March 15. For later use of these images, you must obtain permission from the copyright holder.
Downloading using a password is possible every year in the period between January 15 to March 15.
Passwords remain valid for several years and can only be used by the original user. Misuse will lead to the password being blocked. Please note that the passwords are only valid for downloading current festival photos.
During the festival, the Press Photo Office is located at the Press Centre in the Grand Hyatt Hotel.
