Sweden manages just eleven shots in 5-0 loss, goes for bronze

CHICAGO--The United States did their part tonight to create the dream gold-medal game, defeating Sweden 5-0 to set up a final showdown with Canada at the WW U18 Championship. The U.S. won gold in both 2009 and 2008, and on both occasions Canada had to settle for silver.
Germany, the surprise semi-finalists, no match today

CHICAGO--As expected, Canada rolled over the surprising Germans this afternoon by a 10-0 score at the Walter Bush Arena to earn a place in the gold-medal game of the WW U18 Championship tomorrow night.

CHICAGO--Finland can leave Chicago with a small measure of satisfaction after defeating Japan 4-1 in the fifth-place game. The result puts Japan in sixth place. Earlier in the day the Czechs finished seventh and Russia eighth.
Manuela Anwander, Germany’s captain, was the hero two days ago, scoring the winning goal in overtime against Finland to move her team into the semi-finals.
CHICAGO--Today might be Good Friday on the Catholic calendar, but to the eight hockey teams playing at the WW U 18 Championship the day has more sporting importance as well. All teams will be fighting for one reason or another in four important games.
