Beer is much more extensively consumed than wine, but less adequately
honored. In a small way, I want to help put right that injustice. So come
try a few beers with me. You won't find longer stories here -- just some
notes to help us better enjoy beer together.
Styles
The last major style of beer to be introduced was Pilsner in 1842, but in
all styles there are new efforts to rival the classics.
Breweries
No two breweries are alike. Although the basic principles of brewing are the
same everywhere, the product of the mashtun, the brew kettle and the
fermenting vessels depends very much on exactly where it is made.
Regions
The world's classic beers -- like cheeses and wines, for instance -- were
born in a particular place as a result of local materials, circumstances
and the ideas of the original creator.
