Easter Sunday Earthquake in Baja California Felt Strongly in Coronado
Today's earthquake in Baja California is now officially recorded at a 7.2 magnitude, which was felt in Coronado at a 5.0 magnitude, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Ham radio operators and members of CERO (Coronado Emergency Radio Operators) monitored the amateur radio bands for information. No structural damage was reported in Coronado, but there was a whole lot of shaking going on . . . and then there were aftershocks.
Last month, I requested a plan from our city public safety expert for ways to increase citizen participation in the public safety training groups. Because of my initiative, opportunities will be here soon for everyone in Coronado who is interested to become and stay prepared for any emergency or disaster. Look for information in the near future on ways for you and your children to take advantage of training through CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), CERO, Neighborhood Watch and the Schools.

I am pleased to say that your entire city council is concerned for your safety, as evidenced by their unanimous support for my request to increase citizen participation in our public safety training groups.

Failure to plan is planning to fail.
We in Coronado are not immune from these realities.
Everyone should know what systems exist to help mitigate disasters, how they work, their own role in the larger scheme of overall emergency response, and what to do to minimize the impact on themselves and their loved ones.

Hello, Becky. I'm sorry for your scary experience on the 10th floor. I can't imagine what you went through. I'm glad you are fine. I was only on the second floor of our home and it was very scary.
Using empathetic reasoning and logic, I also can't imagine being in a tunnel under Coronado Island during a 5.0 seismic shock which is the magnitude we experienced here from the Baja California earthquake on Easter Sunday.
Furthermore, I do not want to think of any of my loved ones driving in a Coronado tunnel during a magnitude 7.2 earthquake, which is the strength that the Easter Sunday earthquake registered at its epicenter in Baja California.
There are four (4) earthquake faults that run directly underneath and through Coronado Island. There are five (5) more earthquake faults that are local to Coronado and will also affect Coronado when they become active.
Out of two of the four faults that run under and through Coronado Island, experts expect very strong earthquakes. Specifically, experts predict the following LIKELY magnitudes:
(1) Coronado Fault likely magnitude is 6.0 to 7.7, and
(2) San Diego Fault likely magnitude is 6.1 to 7.7.
Kindly go to the San Diego Natural History Museum website at www.sdnhm.org for more on the local earthquake faults with the following LIKELY magnitudes that will affect Coronado:
(a) San Jacinto likely magnitude 6.4 to 7.3,
(b) Elsinore likely magnitude 6.5 to 7.3,
(c) Rose Canyon likely magnitude 6.2 to 7.0,
(d) La Nacion likely magnitude 6.2 to 6.6, and
(e) San Clemente likely magnitude 6.6 to 7.7.
There is also an explanation on that website of the Richter Scale, which is the tool for earthquake measurement in magnitude.
