Day 105 - Cauldron Lighter: Chris Wilson

Olympian Chris Wilson is the final torchbearer and cauldron lighter in Coquitlam. Wilson competed at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games in wrestling. He started as an amateur wrestler competing in high school in Winnipeg, Manitoba and at Simon Fraser University .He has won numerous awards whether as an athlete.. In addition to the Olympic Games, he has won medals at World Cups and the Commonwealth Games.


Wilson is also very involved in his community. In 1989, he developed the Power Tour — a life- skills and substance abuse prevention program for students in Grades 4 to 8. He presented his program to 150 schools over a 10-year period. In 1993, with the help of a member of the RCMP, he co-founded the ESTEEM Team athletic role model program, which blossomed into a national youth development organization.


Now a father, Wilson volunteers by coaching soccer, lacrosse, hockey and wrestling. He also volunteers with the Maillard Middle School Parent Advisory Committee, with TriCities Operation Red Nose and is chair of the TriCities KidSport branch.
