Curatorial Statement

The benefits of being the strongest, fastest, most powerful and most popular are so widely communicated in the media and other forms of culture that it’s easy to understand why competition – or more specifically, winning – is so absorbing. However, in a society marked by declining resources, not to mention a limited supply of empathy, maybe it’s worth taking time to think about all the moments when cooperation, collaboration and partnership are significantly more important. There is truth to the old saying that “it doesn't matter if we win or lose, it’s how we play the game,” because winning isn’t everything and figuring out how to work together often presents a more demanding challenge.
