There are currently 7 sports with 15 disciplines in the Olympic Winter Games: Skiing (alpine skiing, cross country skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combined, freestyle skiing, and snowboard), Skating (speed skating, figure skating, and short track speed skating), Bobsleigh (bobsleigh and skeleton), Luge, Biathlon, Ice Hockey, and Curling. The Paralympic Winter Games have 5 sports: Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Biathlon, Ice Sledge Hockey, and Wheelchair Curling.

The sport program is set by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Snowboard cross and the team pursuit for long track speed skating were provisionally accepted by the IOC for Torino 2006, and have been formally accepted into the 2010 Winter Games sport program. As well, Vancouver 2010 will showcase the Olympic début of the freestyle ski event of ski cross. Any new sport discipline or event requests must be directed to the IOC for their consideration. VANOC cannot accept donations on behalf of Canadian athletes. Both the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian Paralympic Committee accept donations that help develop their programs for athletes. Please visit their websites for more details.

Details of the Vancouver 2010 Torch Relays - including the routes, the required number of torch bearers, and the process of selection - will not be determined until closer to the Games. As information becomes available, it will be posted on our website.

VANOC cannot accept any unsolicited proposals, suggestions or ideas regarding the creative aspects of the 2010 Winter Games, in order to protect the legal and commercial rights of both VANOC (as the recipient of proposals) and you (as a producer of creative work). When we are ready to begin accepting submissions, we will post further information on our website, and we encourage you to check it on a regular basis.

Only through the formal solicitation of proposals can VANOC ensure that the terms and conditions applicable to proposals and other submitted materials, including terms and conditions relating to ownership and intellectual property rights, are clearly established and understood by all parties prior to the submission.

In the event VANOC receives an unsolicited proposal, VANOC has developed a protocol to address such unsolicited proposals. In particular, upon receipt by VANOC of an unsolicited proposal, such submissions are immediately forwarded, without consideration or review, to the Proposal Administrator for handling. The Proposal Administrator will then seal such proposals, in perpetuity, in files that are only accessible by the Proposal Administrator.

VANOC, in association with the regional tourism and hotel associations, is in the early stages of an accommodation plan for spectators who will be traveling to Vancouver and Whistler for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver. More information on how and when reservations can be booked will be available in 2008.
