Scope of Work for 2010

Demolition of the pre-existing rink and construction of the new international-sizes ice sheet was completed in summer 2009.

Post-Games Use

After the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, the Vancouver Park Board will begin retrofitting the rink for community use. The wider Olympic-sized rink will be converted to the standard NHL size. A new lobby will connect the new rink to the existing Killarney Centre and leisure pool. In partnership with the Killarney Community Association, a new concession will be built in the lobby. The rink will be reduced in width from 100 feet to 85 feet. Spectator seating will be moved from the west end of the rink to the south side and will accommodate 250 people. The special crash pads used during the Games will be removed and the dasher (hockey) boards will be reinstalled. Under-floor piping used to cool the Olympic-sized portion of the ice surface will be repurposed to carry hot water to warm the concourse and spectator areas. The rink will open for community use by May 2010.
