The team that will create these inspiring spectacles needs your energy and enthusiasm! It will take thousands of volunteers in both performing and backstage support roles to guarantee that these two incredible shows delight and amaze the millions of people watching around the world and the elite athletes who inspired them! Becoming part of this amazing team is simple – just follow the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) application process described below.

For all volunteers:

  • We are looking for people aged six years and older, of all skill levels and abilities for paralympic performer roles, and people 19 years and older for support roles.
  • Previous production or performing experience is valuable but not required.
  • Unlike most Games-time volunteer roles, ceremonies volunteers often start months before the Games begin, each potentially logging over 100 hours of rehearsals and preparation time. Please consider this commitment before applying for a ceremonies role.
  • For Olympic ceremonies volunteers, rehearsals will take place weeknights and weekends starting in November, continuing through the December holiday period and up to and including the Opening, Victory and Closing Ceremonies in February 2010. Several rehearsals in February will last all day and your attendance will be required.
  • For Paralympic ceremonies volunteers, rehearsals will take place weeknights and weekends starting in December (though not during the holiday period). The majority of rehearsals will take place in January, with only limited rehearsals during February. Several rehearsals in March will last all day and your attendance will be required.
  • You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from rehearsals which will take place at to-be-determined sites in Metro Vancouver, BC Place and in Whistler for those involved in the Closing Ceremonies.
  • You will need to pass an RCMP security background check to participate.
  • Ceremonies volunteers will not have access to ceremonies tickets, nor will they be able to view the ceremonies when not performing or working.
