Main Media Centre

Venue Overview

The Main Media Centre (MMC) for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games will be located within the Canada Place complex and the Vancouver Convention Centre on the city’s downtown waterfront.

Canada Place will house the Main Press Centre, while the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) will be located in the Vancouver Convention Centre (West Building).

The Canada Place complex, including the convention centre (East Building) and Port Metro Vancouver facilities, will provide workspace for the approximately 2,800 accredited members of the written and photographic press. It will also host the shared services for press and broadcasters, allowing VANOC to provide a common location with shared services for all accredited media, as has been done in previous Winter Games in Torino and Salt Lake.

The International Broadcast Centre will be housed in the west building of the Vancouver Convention Centre, providing workspace for some 7,000 accredited broadcasters and technicians who will produce live television and radio coverage of the 2010 Winter Games. Located on Vancouver’s urban waterfront with a dramatic mountain backdrop, the international award-winning west building is an expansion of the existing convention centre facilities located within the Canada Place complex. The Vancouver Convention Centre opened its expansion this April 2009, tripling its space. One of the greenest convention centres in the world, it now offers more than 500,000 square feet (46,450 square metres) of highly flexible meeting space, unparalleled technical service and culinary excellence.

Canada Place is the inspiring national landmark welcoming local residents, visitors and ships to the West Coast of Canada. Originally established as the site of the Canadian Pavilion at the Expo 86 World’s Fair, Canada Place is a legacy for the Canadian people and a vital economic engine. Immediately following the Fair, the pavilion space was converted into a world-class convention centre. Recognized worldwide, Canada Place’s iconic white roof resembles an ocean liner under full sail featuring five white sails made of Teflon-coated fibreglass.
