Pacific Coliseum - Hastings Park

Venue Operations Information

  • During the Games Renfrew Street (between Hastings Street and McGill Street) will be closed to public vehicles with a few exceptions for local access to ensure the safety of athletes, officials, spectators, workforce and the general public.
  • Pedestrian access on Renfrew Street (between Hastings Street and McGill Street) will be limited to the west sidewalk.
  • The City of Vancouver is working on residential parking plans that will preserve residential parking in the neighbourhoods around all of the venues.
  • Businesses located near the venue will have access to their offices and are free to continue their regular operations during Games-time.
  • Residents in the area will have access to their homes although it might not be via their usual route due to road closures and traffic in the area.
  • Olympic Lanes will be in effect 24 hours a day 7 days a week along the curb lanes only on Hastings Street from Boundary Road to Richards Street (downtown).
  • During the Games the Hastings Community Centre and Templeton Pool will be open; however programming may be modified during this time. Visit the Vancouver Park Board for more information.
  • The Hastings Racecourse and casino will be closed to the public during Games-time. Casino clients will have the opportunity to enjoy other facilities managed by the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation, while Hastings Racecourse Management are reviewing opportunities to align existing staff with positions at other Great Canadian Gaming premises.
  • Walking, cycling and transit will be the fastest ways to get around during the Games. There will be an increase in traffic and additional parking restrictions throughout Vancouver, the downtown and, in particular, in the areas adjacent to Games venues. It is strongly recommended that you choose a mode other than driving. If you must drive, fill up your car with passengers. Find ride matches at ride-share.com. • Targeted stakeholder engagement is ongoing and a Game Plan public open house was held on July 16, 2009.

East Pender Street Information

  • In order to minimize neighbourhood impacts by providing reliable transit service for the many spectators and locals in the area, and given the location of the Olympic Lane along Hastings Street, there will be up to 50 TransLink buses staged on both sides of East Pender Street between Renfrew and Windermere between February 13 and 27.
  • Residents along Pender Street will maintain access to their homes during the Games period. However, between 2:00pm and 11:00 pm on competition days (February 13 to 27), Pender Street will operate as a one-way street eastbound from Renfrew Street to Lillooet Street and stopping/parking will be restricted on the three-block section between Renfrew and Windermere.
  • Residents will be able to park on Pender between 11:00pm and 2:00pm each day (overnight and for the morning period until 2:00 pm).
  • Residents who normally park their vehicles on Pender Street are encouraged to park in their rear lane or on neighbouring streets between 2:00pm and 11:00pm from February 13 to 27.
  • Local traffic will have access to Pender Street but vehicles left parked between Renfrew and Windermere after 2:00pm and before 11:00pm will be subject to ticketing and towing.
  • On competition days between 2:00pm and 11:00pm, there will be barricades at each street approach to this section of Pender in order to discourage general traffic from entering.
  • Pender Street will be open to two-way traffic during the Games period before 2:00pm and after 11:00pm daily.
