Venue Operations Information

The Whistler Sliding Centre, host venue for bobsleigh, luge and skeleton competitions during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, wraps up a successful 2009 summer tour program on Monday, August 31. Since opening, The Whistler Sliding Centre has introduced sliding sports to over 78,000 visitors, including 18,000 this past summer, hosted three world cup competitions and welcomed over 1,100 sliding athletes. This past season alone, 15,000 runs were taken on the track.

Pre-Games Access

Starting September 1, the venue will be closed to the public to allow for safe and efficient Games preparations including equipment load-in, overlay construction and track testing. Day skier lots 7 and 8 will also be closed to the public to allow for Games operations.The Whistler Sliding Centre is working with local tour operators to offer limited pre-booked guided tour opportunities this fall.

Games-time Access

From February 4 to 28, traffic to The Whistler Sliding Centre will be managed using a localized vehicle permit system through the Resort Municipality of Whistler. The checkpoint will be located at Glacier Drive above Blackcomb Way between the hours of 10:00 – 22:00. Vehicle access will be limited to residents and businesses located on the other side of the checkpoint as well as accredited Games workforce, suppliers, officials and other related personnel.

Businesses near the venue will continue to operate leading up to and during the Games with some changes to their operations.
