Cast Commitment Terms

If selected as a Volunteer Performer for the Paralympic Opening and/or Closing Ceremonies, you will become an ambassador for Canada to the rest of the world. To ensure that the Ceremonies reflect well on all of us, we ask that you understand and agree to the following terms of commitment:

  • Some Volunteer Performer positions will require participation in both Paralympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies. The Opening Ceremony will be held at BC Place Stadium on March 12, 2010, and the Closing Ceremony will be held at the Whistler Medals Plaza on March 21, 2010.

  • Neither housing nor compensation will be provided. No expenses will be reimbursed. Ceremonies Volunteer Performers will not have access to Ceremonies tickets, nor will they be able to view the Ceremonies when not performing.

  • Tentative rehearsal schedules will be available in mid-November. Depending on your assigned role, you may be required to attend:

    • An assigned orientation session in late November or early December
    • One or more costume fittings between December 2009 and February 2010
    • Up to four rehearsals per week from January 2009 until March 2010
  • Rehearsals may be scheduled any day of the week including Saturdays and Sundays
  • Rehearsals may be scheduled for any time between the following hours:

    • Mondays to Fridays from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm
    • Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm.

  • Rehearsals may be four or more hours and do not include travel time. Rehearsals closer to the event may be all day.
  • Flexibility will be required as rehearsals may not be scheduled at the same time every week, be delayed or rescheduled and occur in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Extensive rehearsals are critical to the success of every performance. Unexcused absences and excessive tardiness will not be permitted. Absence due to illness will require a doctor's note.
  • If you miss more than two rehearsals, for any reason, or routinely miss portions of a rehearsal, you may be permanently removed from the Ceremonies and your position reassigned.
  • Auditions and rehearsals are closed to the public. Friends, family (including parents or children) and significant others are not permitted. Taking photos or making audio or video recordings is also prohibited.
  • You must provide your own transportation to and from all rehearsals. Rehearsals will be held at to-be-determined sites in the Greater Vancouver area and BC Place.
  • You will be required to adhere to rehearsal guidelines established for the safety of each participant, the consideration of others and the general efficiency of each rehearsal.
  • You will be required to complete additional forms such as: RCMP security background check; medical release; VANOC volunteer release of liability; confidentiality agreement; and consent to use name and likeness. If you were born after October 1, 1990, your parent or legal guardian may need to review and sign these documents as well.
  • Please note that VANOC Volunteer Performers will receive different entitlements than VANOC Games-time volunteers.

If selected to participate, I pledge to freely offer my time and will make every effort to attend all rehearsals. I understand that my participation may be revoked at any time, for any reason, including without limitation, unexcused absence or tardiness, misconduct, unauthorized photography, breach of confidentiality, or inability or unwillingness to perform as directed.
