Aboriginal Youth Sport Legacy Fund

Created as part of the Shared Legacies Agreement signed by the Squamish and Lil’wat First Nations, the Province of BC and the Vancouver 2010 Bid Corporation, the Aboriginal Youth Sport Legacy Fund supports provincial programs to encourage Aboriginal youth to pursue excellence in sport. At the request of both Chiefs and Councils, 2010 Legacies Now has been asked to act as the Fund trustee.

The Fund supports initiatives such as Aboriginal Youth Talent Identification events, a High-Performance Athlete Assistance Grant, a post-secondary scholarship program, and the First Nations Snowboard Team.

Aboriginal Youth Talent Identification Events
Working together with partners such as 2010 Legacies Now and the Greater Vancouver Urban Aboriginal Strategy, we’ve participated in the hosting of five “Aboriginal Youth Talent Identification” events in 2005 and 2006. These sessions were held in different locations across the Lower Mainland, identifying prospective young Aboriginal athletes. More than 200 youth participated.
