A 71-year-old Japanese visitor apparently drowned this morning in the Hilton Hawaiian Village lagoon.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Osamu Takahashi of Asahikawa, Japan.

Paramedics were dispatched at 10:29 a.m. after the man was found floating face down in the water, said Honolulu Emergency Services Department spokesman Bryan Cheplic.

Someone pulled the man out of the water and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics arrived, Cheplic said.

Takahashi was taken to Straub Clinic & Hospital, where he died.
