Constituency Profile
Boundary changes at the election are minor. The six wards that straddled the seat and Carshalton and Wallington have been realigned: Belmont, Sutton Central, and Sutton South are now entirely within Sutton and Cheam; while Carshalton Central, St Helier, and the Wrythe wards are completely contained in Carshalton and Wallington. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.
The areas of Sutton and Cheam are at the south-west boundary of Greater London, nestling on the edge of the North Downs not far from Epsom.
This is a prosperous constituency, though Cheam to the south of the constituency is more affluent than Sutton.
Suttons close proximity to central London, the M25 orbital motorway, and Gatwick Airport has attracted a number of major employers to the area. Among the biggest are Reed Business Publishing, Canon, the Crown Agents, Securicor, and Sainsburys, several of which have their headquarters in the borough.
