RSC Mücke Motorsport from Berlin is set for the oncoming GP3 Series starting in May. Peter Mücke confirmed the team has signed German Tobias Hegewald (20) from Waldbreitbach in Rheinland-Pfalz (Rhineland-Palatinate) to fill the final seat. Before that the German team already had the two Dutch drivers Nigel Melker (19) and Renger van der Zande (24) on their books.
“Tobias had many good results the last years in the Formula Renault and the Formula 2. He is an experienced driver with good chances on the podium in the GP3,” Said Team Principal Peter Mücke. Hegewald has already driven for the team in the 2005 Formula BMW Championship. “It’s very nice to reconvene again,” underlined the team leader.
Tobias Hegewald is naturally excited about the upcoming season “I am looking forward to the collaboration with Peter Mücke and his team. He enabled access for me into Formula racing,” said the young driver. At the moment he is completing his final exams at school, but his focus will then be 100% on his ambition to be a successful racing driver. “Sure, Formula 1 is my big goal. But at the moment I want to be winning in GP3 and competing to be the first Series champion. This is not going to be easy, because the competition is big,” explains Tobias.
“We now have an encouraging driver’s trio for the premiere in the GP3 and we will be fighting for top positions during the season,” commented Peter Mücke.
Next week there will be the second official test of the series at the high-speed track Paul Ricard at Le Castellet (31st of March/1st of April) and the team is aiming to gather more experience.
