Admissions process

We want to attract exceptional students, regardless of personal background, to study at Oxford. Then we want to help their talents to develop and flourish. If you have an outstanding academic record, are highly motivated to undertake research of the highest quality, and want to study in a vibrant research community, then we look forward to welcoming you here.

There are two stages to the admissions process at the University of Oxford. The first stage is acceptance by the Saïd Business School; the second is acceptance by an individual college. However, it is not necessary to send a separate application form to colleges.

The closing date for complete applications is 08 January 2010 for DPhil programme starting in October 2010. If you wish to be considered for scholarships, please see the Fees and Funding section.

Discussing your research interests

We recommend that potential students start their applications by emailing admissions with an outline of their proposed research area and their CV.

If you have checked the faculty listing on the website (and, if applicable, the listing for the Economics Department on the University website) and identified any possible supervisors, please list them in your email. It is not essential to list any faculty members as Admissions forwards all these requests to the Course Director in order to help us to identify possible supervisors who may match your research interests. Your research area may be cross discipline. Emails should be sent to dphil@sbs.ox.ac.uk.

Please note that part of the admissions process is to assess your suitability for doctoral research and to match your interests, via a full and complete application, with those of potential supervisors. Therefore, regardless of any contact with Faculty members or Centres at the School, completed online applications must be received by 8 January 2010. Final decisions are made by the Committee after that deadline.
