The AFL offers financial assistance to football friendly schools to purchase permanent Australian Football goal posts. Goal posts provide a visible presence of our indigenous game at a school level and will help to grow our games community capacity. It is hoped that students and teachers will utilise the posts as a part of the school’s P.E/Sport program and potentially local clubs and NAB AFL Auskick centres.

The aim is to provide a specific grant per school to assist with the purchase of permanent posts. It will be vital that schools meet set criteria and that the provision of the posts will lead to potential growth in participation and increased access by the local football community.

These grants will be managed by each state in consultation with regional development staff and the respective schools. Each state may devise additional criteria for these grants; however as a minimum we would expect that the school has an AFL School Ambassador and participates in competitions of at least 6 weeks in duration or has made a committed to be involved in the near future.

The process could simply involve regional development staff making their local schools aware of this funding or specifically approaching schools and providing them with the National/State specific criteria for the subsidy scheme. The application would then be approved by the Regional Development Manager, Participation/Schools Manager of the respective state/territory football body. The school would apply for the grant with approval from the school Principal assuring that the remaining funds for the goal posts will be provided by the school with a firm date for completion and to ensure specific state government guidelines is adhered to during instillation.

Schools should also provide a written quote that they have obtained from a sports supplier.
