ADL joined with President Barack Obama as he signed into law the “Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act.” Named after two victims of horrific hate violence, the bill’s passage was the culmination of more than 12 years of effort to build the case for a comprehensive national hate crime law.
