Science and the Media: Securing the Future Forum
Moderators:
Commissioned by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, and written by the Science & the Media Expert Group chaired by Fiona Fox, Director of the Science Media Centre, Science and the Media: Securing the Future lays out the challenges facing science broadcast and journalism today and issues a wake up call to any one that cares about science. The report also contains a number of actions and recommendations to adress these challenges – including radical plans to officer basic science training to journalists, a new scheme to get more scientist to work in the media, a call for new funding to boost investigative reporting on science and a new Science Programming Centre based loosely on the SMC – some of which need funding and people to take them on.
What do you think of the report? Do the conclusions it draws reflect your experience? Are you, or do you know, the right person to take forward some of the actions? Or fund them? Are there gaps, or issues that haven’t been identified?
